    Hi All,

We're off to Thailand at the End of June for 2 weeks.
We're going to be in Koh Samui for most of the 2 weeks and a few days in Bangkok for a few days towards the end.

Do we nned to get any type of shots before we go ?

It all depends on where abouts you are going and what you plan on doing.
For example, if you plan on trekking through the jungle up the North, there is a higher chance of getting Malaria.
Think the jabs I got were for Rabies, Typhoid, Hepatitis A and Polio, and was given Malaria tablets (we were spending some time up the North and in Koh Chang).
Basically your doctor will be able to give you proper advice on this though but have a look here

OP is going to Koh Samui and Bangkok. You will not need any jabs, although it would be no harm to have rabies/tetanus in case you get a cut or a bite. In terms of malaria etc, you'll be grand. Don't drink the tap water, only bottled water.

Tetanus definately, no need for malaria tablets in Bangkok.
Only probably need yellow fever, HepA and Malaria if you're going up north.
Rabies?? Advisable, but this requires treatment over about 12 weeks before the trip. Italy and France are not rabies free...and I dont get rabies jabs when I go skiing. You will be bitten by mozzies, use some repellent.

Remeber that you don't actually need seperate injections for each disease. I got all my injections, for everything. Only about 3 jabs in all. They are combined....try www.tmb.ie

Why is everyone going on about "if you're going up north"?!

The Op is going to Bangkok and Samui!

as has already been said you shouldn't need malaria tablets in Bangkok or Koh Samui. Just make sure to put on plenty of repellent before going out any evening (get anything that has a high percentage of deet).

Hepatyrix (combined Hep A and Typhoid) and Revaxis (combined Tetanus/Diptheria/Polio) are fairly standard for South East Asia. You might want to get the rabies shots as well as there's loads of stray dogs around the islands. Though if like me you just don't feed/pet them you should be grand.
Rabies shots by the way don't have to be 12 weeks prior, it's 3 separate injections, first 2 are a week apart, last one 2 weeks after the second so you've time if you decide to.

A lot of it comes down to common sense and precautions, don't drink or brush your teeth with tap water, don't get ice in drinks, eat fruit in restaurants with skins on (washed in tap water and common source of dreaded Delhi belly), don't interact with animals. Close windows or draw mosquito nets when sleeping, use repellent when going out and you'll be grand.

Was there for 3 weeks in Febuary - mainly Bangkok, spent a few days in resort south of Bangkok - Pattaya. didnt get any jabs, just normal common sense precautions. You'll be fine.

Doctors will always recommend hep a, typhoid but I didnt bother and Im fine... If your only going to tourist resorts (ie bangkok, samui) u should be fine.
