    Belfast airport plans huge expansion
    Wednesday, 25 April 2007 14:12
8,000 new jobs could be created under a commercial development planned for the Belfast International Airport at Aldergrove in County Antrim.

The airport has received planning permission for a mixed development on a 100-acre site adjoining the main terminal buildings. Among the planned projects is the construction of a new airport hotel.

Belfast International at Aldergrove is already the island's second largest airport, serving almost 100 scheduled and charter destinations in Europe, the US and Canada.

AdvertisementIts multimillion pound project will include trading units, hotels and retail space. Construction work has already begun on the first of nine planned Aldergrove development zones. The entire scheme will take 10 to 15 years to complete.

Management said it was pushing ahead with the huge project now because of the prospect of political stability in the North.
