Wait...what the hell? Isn't .wpd an older text file format? Like a proto .doc?

Perhaps you embedded it like you can in Word or something.

Well, here, see if any of these will host it for you. Bring the link here, I'll see if I can do anything.

That only works with some file types. No harm trying if you make a back up copy.

What actual application created it? .WPD is an extension shared by a few different applications.

Is it's a .wdp file? That's a Microsoft picture format, Windows Media Photo (which seems to have been renamed to .hdp Wiki entry)

A .wpd is a word perfect file, which may be hard to covert to a jpg :)

If it's a .wdp file then
You need either Vista Photo Gallery or Adobe Photoshop to open the Wdp pic.

    Actually it's very easy :)

If you have access to the application that created it, you can convert absolutely anything to a jpg, or a number of other image formats using PDFCreator. If you can print it, you can convert it.

That makes so much more sense.

Is there actually anything out there that can create these yet?

I'm fairly sure Vista can generate them. Although that seems odd, I'm back to being confused. The idea I had earlier was that he had saved an image to a Word Perfect document and saved that, so the image was embedded in it, like you can do with .doc for Word.
