    Hi all,

looking down through the latest threads, and the discussions about adding new sub categories, and the treatment of certain threads by mods - i was just wondering why do you read/post here??

    me: entertainment 75% education 25%

maybe i'm way off the mark but i'd guess a 50/50 split?

I believe it was set up purely on a theory/strategy basis, but should this view be changed to facilitate what you guys require from it??

    many thanks

    bops

50-50 but I'd rather it was more like 75-25 weighted towards the strategy side of things.

for me it's about the same 75/25... i normally read 2+2 for the education bit.... a shame really as there is so much to learn from the tallent on here...

Since I only play STT's, it's all entertainment for me.

    Entertainment 40%
    News/Info on live events 15%
    Strategy 35%
    Killing time 10%

So we should disregard your opinion on any subforum decision then?

(not that it or mine for that matter is taken into account in the first place)

Just trying to create enough of a posting history on this board that TPTB will eventually let me on to the Sexual Matters board.

when I first started reading it was all about the edumacation. Then I started posting and getting to know a few people, and the education:entertainment/low content ratio changed over time. But it's gone too far I think, and I want to change that.

The whole arguement is that there are other forums on boards if you want entertainment, after hours etc

I post/read/browse for education almost exclusively, I posted the below in the forum section regarding a possible re-design. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky ;)

when I first started posting here it was all about education. Some of the earliest posters had really good theory and knowledge and it helped me immensely. The likes of Devore, Hectorjelly, Hyzphyer in particular where very helpful and interested in learning and playing. We had home games every week, a boards tournament and laughed at entering the freerolls in the fitz...

I knew next to nothing and I was making the money in almost every fitz tournament I played in, it was great!!

Much like the game itself though, the forum has suffered from popularity. Where there used to be a real community feel and a hotpot of advice and strategy posts, it's now become almost random threads and chatter. I rarely post anymore, and to be honest that's probably more to do with the fact that I still see this as a sideplot to my life as opposed to my overriding interest.

A lot of newer posters seem to be obsessing about turning pro, they don't say it directly in their posts but if you read between the lines it's there to see. Players jump in at levels way above what they're capable of playing and then attribute running good to actually being exceptional at the game. New posters are slated and get sarcastic replies and the noise to signal ratio has expanded at a rate of knots.

I still browse and read all the time, but it's almost all about education for me. I only read the threads where I think I might learn something, and the IN THE WELL series in particular is fascinating. I think the forum should be more about education, for players of all levels, and there are plenty here who could give valuable advice if it didn't get lost in the maelstrom. Unfortunately a lot of it does and without some sort of re-design that will only get worse not better.

But those other forums are full of internet nerds....:p :p

Whereas we, clearly are the cool kids!!!

On a serious note it's about 75% Improving my game/ keeping my mind fresh and 25% Entertainment,

I'm actually the opposite to Macspower and usually read 2+2 for entertainment, (BBV, NVG, etc.) and prefer posting here for my game.

I'd say the emergent role of it is to faciliate a sense of community among Irish poker players. On non-Irish matters one really will get better strategy advice on other larger poker fora, especially 2+2.

That's the main point in the last few threads like this one. If it's a poker forum then it should be for discussion about poker.
There's no harm in having a healthy community feel to the forum but not everybody is part of that community, not everyone plays in the Fitz/SE/wherever, so for some % of the readership all the entertaining slagging and gossip really gets in the way.

That's why we're trying to figure out a way to organise the forums that suits most people, most of the time.

I really think the whole thing can be split up into the following categories:
    - Strategy - all poker strategy - low and high stakes
    - Live poker - discussion of rules, casinos, last nights games etc.
    - Internet Poker - online casinos, bonuses, software, last nights games, etc.
    - Tournament announcements
    - Bad beats, boasts, etc..

The only question with all of that is what do you do with the main poker forum?
