    Hi,

For any of you interested in photography, there is a must see documentary next Tuesday, May 1st, on RTÉ One at 10.15pm.

It's about the life and work of the amazing Irish photographer, Fergus Bourke.

is this the chap who took a photo of people fighting in a field in the 70s; surrounded by people in bad suits leaning against beetles and cortinas?

unfortunatly the match went into overtime and pens -- so missed the start of this documentary -- but what i saw was brilliant -- my type of photographer , documenting the underbelly of Irish society, along with wonderfull landscapes -- now i know why i do it -- and nice to see some one real and down to earth, in comparison to some other photographers , who appear the opposite -- class.

I was actually thinking about some of your shots when I was watching it :-)
    I like that quote ...
"I use to love street photography ... until someone ****ed it up by saying I had a social conscience" -swigs bottle of wine-

His landscapes really are astonishing. I get the impression that he concentrated almost exclusively on landscape in his later stuff.

-edit- ah good to see boards autocensorship in action ! -edit-

Anyone else think it ended very abrubtly??

I really enjoyed the show. What camera was he using for his landscapes?

I loved the nude shot of the woman infront of the waterfall..

Looked like a bronica or a hasselblad. Probably a 6x4.5 judging by the way he held it sideways taking one shot. I was initially surprised at the amount of handheld shots he was taking. Then in one shot he was trudging up a mountain carrying the beastliest looking tripod I've seen in a while. Looked like he was bringing a studio tripod out shooting !

I missed it too, how about sticking it up on a webby site somewhere for people to download.

I was impressed by the way he was putting his thoughts - his idea about his work, why he did it etc - he did make a lot of sense - inspirational too - that man has my respect!

If you can give me instructions on what software i need and how to do it i would definitely do that i was always wondering how to do such a thing?

I have it recorded to Sky+ and i know how to put it onto DVD via my DVD recorder.

Now there's an idea. If only I knew how. Can I convert a DVD to some size that is managable? If so how? If anyone is set up for that I could send them the DVD.

Surprising RTE don't have Atrs Lives it on the web like the Songs from a Room.

You'd need some webspace is all. Probably a pretty big file though. Most web hosts have online FTP facilities so you just go to their page, browse to the file you want to upload and click upload (like Flickr) or you can use FTP software like SimpleFTP or something. DVD files can be tricky though. I spent a half a day (legally) copying one once and gave up

I'd really love a copy of it if anyone gets a chance. His stuff looks amazing.

I'm really glad everyone enjoyed it. I knew him and he was a great character. His work was amazing too and I just love that he has such an amazing variety in his catalogue - everything from stills from the Abbey to Dublin street scenes to portraits of 'celebs' to west of Ireland landscapes. What a life - what a career!

i loved his outlook to photography about capturing moments and the realities of his life , but particularly capturing new and uncovered images , and not going back and re-shooting scenes, i am guilty of this going back to reliable easy fodder .

    Hi,

Does anybody know if this has been uploaded to Google video or the likes??? I only caught the last 10 minutes of it and have been dying to see for for ages.

    Cheers.
