Looking at Dell laptops at the moment. They seem to be the best option based on price (I've been scared off Acer by the build quality comments and the stories on here)
I want it to be as future proof as possible (I know this is impossible) without going mad on cash.
Needed for e-mail, office apps, web etc. Not interested in gaming. (Might want to dabble in light CAD at a later date but perhaps this is only suitable for a desktop)
Want as fast a processor as will make a visible difference when using it.

Does the Intel 950 graphics card affect quality of watching a DVD?

Still undecided about going for a 17" vs 15.4 " screen. I've used a 17" 9400 laptop and it is nice. Looking at the cost of a 15.4" + a monitor for home use kind of equates or is more expensive than the 17" laptop price anyway....

    Would like bluetooth & a 9 cell battery. (I know the 1501 doesn't have a bluetooth option).

Would also prefer XP but that is becoming increasingly rare for new units.

I'd appreciate your inputs - which would you buy?

Firstly, rule out the laptops with the GMA. It's fine for DVDs, but for Vista, you'd really want at least the X1150.

Between the Go7300 and X1400, if you aren't playing games, whichever is cheaper is the better option as at least you'll save a bit of cash.

If you want to spend as little as possible, the 1501 will do the job quite well, but if you're spending a little more, then the option with the 7300 is the best, and 100 euro cheaper then the one with the X1400. Again, the 7300 is a bit less powerful then the X1400 but this would only be apparent really in games, so no reason why you should go an extra 100 for it.

I'd go for more RAM if you're looking to future proof, Vista is only going to need more resources in the future...
(in my experience with laptops, it always seems to be the bottle neck after a couple of years)

    Mobility

This looks like a good choice to me if you're not worried about gaming, you could also upgrade the processor and RAM to 667Mhz FSB for an extra 100 euro, not sure if it's worth it though.

or add the 9 cell and bluetooth for about 90

/Edit just saw you wanted to watch DVDs, the screen is probably a little too small for that
