Ordering Sky+. From Sky or Local Installer?

    Hi,
I've been waiting for an offer for upgrading to Sky+ but none in sight so will take the plunge now at full price.
Looking for some advice. What are the advantages of going with a local installer compared with ordering directly from Sky?

Many thanks in advance for any advice on the matter.

Two questions.... did a Sky installer install it previously, so that it can be considered a standard install, and do you plan to use your now spare old digibox in another room?

I'm well out of contract (long time ago) but I originally got it installed directly from Sky. Wouldnt be going for multiroom (so there's a €75 installation cost).

Well, if you were happy enough with the work done by the previous Sky installers, then maybe go through Sky again.

If you think the workmanship was shoddy, opt for an independant.

It'd be an easy DIY job to connect your old box to another room for the free channels.

Can you expand on that please? Or provide some links?

    Thanks

The standard LNB (the thing on the arm of the dish) has 1 output for one digibox. When Sky+ is installed a quad LNB has to be installed inplace of the single one. This has 4 outputs which can feed up to 4 digiboxes. The Sky+ box needs 2 feeds which leaves 2 spare outputs on the dish.
All you need to do is run a cable from one of the spare outputs on the dish to a spare digibox in another room and you'll get all the free to air channels.

    Sounds good. Thanks.
What kinda cable is used? Is it readily available?

Silly question, would Sky know ?

Not sure about if they would know, but you perfectly entitled to run a spare digibox for the free channels or an fta box in an additional room should you decide to.
