I see from your other thread on music your doing some sort of list for Today FM? If so, please, please dont play the above (well, Changes is a good tune, but its only related controversy is that it was iirc Tupacs first post death release). Where is the Love was ****e.

NWA **** the Police kicked up a fuss back in the day (though Im not mad about the song, the whole of Straight Outta Compton was controversial tbh, maybe stick on the title track on your show)

As for the "storytelling theme" mentioned on the other thread, Nas and Biggie Smalls were the best in the game.

By Biggie- Juicy (probably the most "radio friendly" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5flhzSy5moA ), Everyday Struggle ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5flhzSy5moA )

Theres a decent Akon and Tupac remix of Everyday Struggle at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcwAflhXs4c (edited version mind, theres an uncut one somewhere)

Theres also Me and My Bitch, which is a great story despites its hoes and bling title, but I dunno how it would go down with the bossman.....

    Ice T - Cop Killer

I Wonder If Heaven Has A Ghetto and Do For Love were both released before Changes.

What TodayFM show is going to play these tracks? Are they going to be editied versions?

Two Live Crew - Me So Horny
Sir Mix-A-Lot - Baby Got Back
Public Enemy - Fight The Power

If sex and violence are to be considered controversial there are literally thousands of choices of songs.

    True.

Racism is also a controversial topic. Tracks like 'Cave Bitch' & 'Black Korea' (Ice Cube), 'Nature of the Threat' & 'Ordo Abchao' (Ras Kass) are a few that spring to mind.

Why are we looking for controversial songs again exactly?

I don't think Ice Cube, Ras Kass or PE made many pop songs.

Just looking over the OPs post again...How are the Black Eyed Peas controversial? The most controversial thing they've ever done is actually being allowed to release their "music". And Toy Soldiers by Eminem? How exactly was that controversial?

Yeah I don't see the premise of the OP's post either.Seems to have a fairly dodgy understanding of Hip-Hop.

Where did anybody ever say that they did?

I have a feeling if this is actually for some radio show, its probably going to set out to vilify Hip Hop and Rap... And as radio stations usually do with "Hip Hop" themed shows, they'll probably end up playing some **** like Chris Brown or Ne-Yo *shivers*

I was thinking the same thing.Which is why the threadstarter needs to explain herself before I close this thread for its stupidity and pointlessness.

Totally agree with you Orizio. Lets keep the Hip Hop forum for proper Hip Hop discussions. Any thread that mentions Black Eyed Peas on here should be locked automatically and the poster banned for life!!! :)

My input was strictly hip-hop related I assure you ;)

Yeah, this thread is pointless and probably should be locked.

50 Cent - How To Rob (His only ever good song & it was before he was famous)

btw why would you want 4 year olds listening to this sort of stuff??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22 Tracey Lee

Noooo, lol...the 4yr olds have their own stuff,...haha.. this is for the older over 18s...for their part...the younger classes have the mild tracks like your black eyed peas and lil star...that sorta thing..oh and not my classes either, its my friends school...but thanks for you help there..cheers:)

Why would you want controversial songs for a dance class dealing with 4 year olds and up? Are they going to act out the lyrics through dance?

What has controversy got to do with anything?

    [edit]You hadn't posted that before I replied. Guess I got distracted.[/edit]

LOL...you're ok,hun..hahaa....I'm still confused tho why everyone's so moody and negative today!!...It must be the weather...! May God grace us with more sunshine quick!! I didn't expect a whole debate about why I wanted the songs...just a list to give us idea ...I am so, so surprised at the reactions I am getting..rofl... I am sorry and I truly am not being sarcastic here..I am just a little bit shocked at why people in general are not friendly or could simply ask...oh by the way why do you need the songs..instead of jumping to conclusions and being critical...sorry guys, but just being honest here...you really shocked me with your responses...as I probably never get that sort of treatment usually, I'm just a pleasant, happy go lucky,v truthful, easy going sorta girl!!..and today, you all kinda made me feel like I'd done something reallly wrong.

Alright back on point, more of those lists of controversial Hip-Hop tracks.

I suggest looking at stuff that isn't just controversial because it is racist or sexist. Some Public Enemy for example.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22 Tracey Lee

    Thanks Orizio:)
    Yep!!! That sounds good;)
... it can be old skool, doesn't have to be just recent stuff.:):):):)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,831 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

maybe check out some boogie down productions, controversial along the lines of Public Enemy.

More recently Pharoahe Monch's "Gun Draws" has been seen as controversial.

Don't think you would have experienced the same level of negativity if you'd been a little more explicit with your 1st post

    Good Morning tracey,

You might want to throw some of Nas' stuff in there. His earlier stuff like Illmatic is more hip hop orientated while his latest album Hip Hop is Dead has some quality "rap" beats on it. I have another few songs you could try as well:

    2Pac- Skandalouz
    2Pac- No More Pain
    Outkast-Players Ball
The Game - Why you hate the game
The Game - Put you on the game
G-Unit - Wanna get to know you (The only song I will ever like involving 50 cent)

Also don't take comments yesterday too personally. You'll find most people who really appreciate Hip Hop and Rap will react angrily to someone throwing Black Eyed Peas into a "controversial" list. Don't worry too much about it!!

    Hey Darkjager:)

Thanks so much:) That's exactly the sorta stuff we're looking for.
    Great:)
I was only flicking thru that album from Nas this morning.
    And yeah thanks...no more BEP I promise:o

    Trace;)

    No problem

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

In BEP's defence, their first album was dope, as was will.i.am's debut. It all went awry when 'she' arrived...;)

How about Kool G Rap's 'Erase Racism'?You could particurly look at how he went from making songs like that to becoming an out and out gangster rapper.

Ah now Orizio, the BEP really have no defence. Will.i.am produced a track for The Game called "I'm chillin". It sucks balls....big time..

He also produced Compton on Doctors Advocate. One of the best productions this year so far imho.

Indeed, its like me being ganged up on because, as someone with little knowledge of computers, I ask on the comp forum what to a techie is as simple as ABC. Relax lads.

Did you listen to their debut?Or Lost Change?

Check them out, their high quality Hip-Hop.Their last two albums suck but will.i.am has had plenty of good beats lately.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,960 ✭✭✭DarkJager

To be honest I find their style to be irritating in the extreme....there is just something about them (before and after "she" came) that gets on my nerves...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,831 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

yup, 1st two BEP albums are pretty nice....especially the first one, probably one of the best "party" hip-hop albums i've heard. So they sold out to make some cash....they're not the first, and won't be the last!!!

OP, you could also check out Dead Prez, or if its more dance related, i suppose most of the stuff from the 90s "booty bass" scene round Miami would fit the controversial bill, eg Luke, 2 Live Crew, etc...

Ghostdancer, I don't think the OP originally meant controversial in the normal sense. She was looking for Hip Hop tracks for a dance class and I named a few tracks which have a good beat to them
