What do you mean double check-raised?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,441 ✭✭✭jhegarty

If you are last to act on the river always ask yourself "What will call my bet"...

If the answer is stuff that beats you then don't bet...

What did you except the call here, second pair (not really) , worse jack (possible), two pair (yep), trips (yep)....

I think this is a good spot to check behind.

Ohya you're right I didn't get double check raised at all. Title changed.

hegarty wtf are you on about?

Wait there's no option to change the title. Just imagine the title is

"Damn I got bet/called and checkraised"

Would he ever play a flush draw like this, lead flop, call a raise, check raise turn.

910 XsXs might be possible depending on the Villain.

    draws?

would we ever shove the turn over his c/r instead?

flop play is more like a fd than a set? player dependent i guess.

    Whoever changed my title

    YOU DA MOD!!!

Everything is improved when you add 'lol'.

If Villain is a nittish regular does that mean he rarely raises a big draw here, like 5s6s or something? You're not beating any made hands.

I hate betting the turn and folding to the all in, we are getting 5/1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭pok3rplaya

No by nittish I don't really mean like that. For example if he had 9s Ts on that flop he would have no problem getting all in.

Just looking at this hand now I think I made a bunch of mistakes.

Firstly, I shouldn't have raised the flop. I should have just flat called ant then got money in on a blank turn with better equity. When I raise, basically all I'm doing is ensuring that if more money goes in, I'm flipping at best.

As played, I dunno what to do on the turn really. Surely lots of sets would push the flop because of all the draws out there. So I dont know what to put him on here.

The flop was the major cock up though.

    not if you're drawing dead.

well if i think I am looking at a set all the time, then I fold, but i think we will win this at least 16% of the time that we need or whatever it is to breakeven.

i don't like any of this
first of all, against a nit raising the flop is a bluff-i've started raising a few more flops with TPTK type hands for value recently, mainly to balance all the other flop raising i've been doing, but its still only something i would do occassionally, and i would never do it against a nit,and would usually want to have AK rather than AJ.

secondly, once your flop raise is called,i would check behind the turn 100% of the time, against against a nittish regular,if its some crazy guy who can't fold a draw it'd be different obviously.

    preflop is fine

flop is fine - but his reraise/call looks like a draw

turn is fine - either he had the best hand on the flop, and wanted to see a blank on the turn 1st before getting too deep or he still has a draw - depending on your image i guess - the draw is doubtful tho

river - you have only $160 behind - i couldn't fold (although probably the best move)

small chance of having the best hand
small chance of sucking out (eg he has kk)

somebody go work that one out?
Some sound advice here as usual.
As OP pointed out him self, against a nit a raise is horrible and as Robin pointed out you are essentially bluffing.(I think raising here is often bad unless you have seen him make blocking bets and **** like that with draws )

The turn is also far from fine.
You have reraised him big on the flop and he has called (this from a nit means a made hand) and the turn has not changed anything so the bet here is horrible.

I don’t think he ever has KK here .
His play is more like a draw than a made hand to me to be honest.
I mean the pot is big enough on the turn for him to want to protect it with the flush/str draw there so the check makes no sense to me. that’s the only reason why I think you should have called his bet.

lol i somehow added an extra street!

anyway with reference to the above, what i see here is:

para 1 - raise is horrible - he's a nit and you are bluffing
para 2 - bet is horrible - he's still a nit and still has a made hand
para 3 - fold is horrible - he's now a dirty fish with a draw

    please explain - i'm a bith stupid - thanks!!

what does nit mean specifically in stat terms

I would usually just call flop, and check turn, and once you get there like this fold
