I got a blank message off an 089 number from the year 2019

Before someone tells me that alot of other people got this message or something and makes me feel not so special i just wanna say that it could be me in the future trying to tell me something. Maybe posting here isn't a good idea because the me in the future will be like "****s sake" but at least the me in the future knows that his message was blank and that he (or I?!) should send another.

Friends said that Tesco are starting an 089 number and i'd say years and years ago my mam used my number when signing up for a clubcard or something and maybe they're trying to promote their phone service? And that the fact that its from "2019" is just a technical error. My friends clearly don't believe in like, timetravel?

Anyway does anyone know why I got this message?

Oh and a shout out to me in the future!

The message sent data comes from the sender, so it's whatever date they had their phone, or system on.

That's not the case. I've sent myself a message before to find out the time when the clock's gone kaput and sometimes just because I'm desperately alone.

That's definitely a time traveling text message.

Spot on, it's Tesco doing service testing, and time stamp will come through from whatever the networks NMC has it set to. General public should not be getting the SMS though.

I know this, because Tyler knows this.

I would have thought Tesco's service would have been 086 too, as they're being carried on the o2 network.

Entire ranges (087, 088, 083 etc.) tend to be given out to operators rather than VMNO's, or at least I would have thought - the number of ranges available could get used up quite quickly otherwise.

I have decided to forgo the actual reason why you were sent this message (testing reasons for Tesco's) and have decided to take this thread to a more spiritual level. If it was your future self sending you this strange text message then surely he must have lived your life up until 12 years later. Hense done everything you have done, are doing, and will do. So no matter what you do now, whether it seems like the most boring thing, or most eratic thing, it has already been done (except killing yourself). But technically killing yourself is impossible, actually it would be impossible you you to die of any cause for the next 12 years, otherwise it will caused a serious time paradox.

*cracks knuckles with a smug smile* I'll add this thread to my list of killed threads

So Tesco whilst testing their new system send messages to people at random?
Are Tesco operating this themselves or just renting from Vodafone or O2?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 2,432 Mod ✭✭✭✭Peteee

    They are using O2's network

Just looked in my crystal ball and your future doesn't go as far as 2019, so there must be some other reason for this text, probably Tesco testing.

This really should be in Mobiles/PDAs

Well Three's service is carried on the Vodafone network, so I suppose it doesnt work like that anymore.

I'm intrigued by this tesco mobile thing. When do they launch?
