    BUS SAFETY BELT SURVEY

Do you operate a Bus? Do you regularly carry children in it?

If so, the Road Safety Authority wants to know whether the bus has safety belts fitted.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is conducting a survey to establish the level of fitment of safety belts on buses providing organised transport for children e.g. on day trips, to sports clubs, events, health centres, hospitals or for educational or leisure activities. For the purposes of the survey, a child is any person under 18 years of age and a bus is any vehicle with seating accommodation for 9 or more passengers.

The information gathered in the survey will inform the development of public policy in relation to the transport of children on buses. Information provided by individual bus operators to the RSA will be treated confidentially.

A Survey Form is being sent to each licensed Bus Operator by the RSA. For others engaged in the provision of organised transport of children, a Survey Form may be downloaded here or may be obtained by contacting the RSA on (01) 6041540 or by emailing: bussurvey@rsa.ie. The survey form should be completed and returned to the RSA by Friday, 4 May 2007.

The RSA’s objective is to bring Ireland's road safety record into line with international best practice in co-operation with our stakeholders.

The Road Safety Authority appreciates your co-operation in participating in this survey.
