    The mineral cannot be called kryptonite under international nomenclature rules because it has nothing to do with krypton - a real element in the Periodic Table that takes the form of a gas.

    According to this Star Trek fan page: Kryptonite - Kr [sic] isn't due to be discovered until the year 2369, so this discovery must be wrong!

    But isn't there already valid kryptonite? As another poster said, Krypton is an element, all you have to do to make it into kryptononite is describe it in anion form with oxygen, and you have Kryptonite.
