I just place an ad in adverts looking for a Kawasaki Ltd 450. As the adverts site is pretty much useless now, I'd thought I'd mention it here too.

So anyone know of one for sale?

    Cheers

Don't know any for sale but I have a soft spot for the KZ400's ;)

The LTD is a fine little machine.

I've only started looking for a 450 or 454 Ltd, but so far haven't found any. Is there any specific mags or places to look for a bike like this?

bike is 1980 KZ500, bought for Vintage rally. Cured of that bug now, he's looking for a Burgman 650.

If you have any details on the bike (pix, milage, price etc) can you send them on to me. I might be interested.

What other bikes are the same style as the Ltd 450/454
Is the EN series the follow on model to it?
It's going to be my first bike, so nothing too big, or too small. What else to consider?

    Thanks

The GS***L series bikes from Suzuki are very similar. They did a 400 , 500 , 650 and 750 all the way up to 1100. Later (early 80's) they changed to GS***GL.
Unsurpassed build quality, although I'm not sure how easy it is to get parts for them these days.

Check out http://www.suzukicycles.org/ for a full model list.

    Yep, EN500 came after.

Others........hmmm Virago's have been around forever, so should be loads of cheap ones out there.

    Similarly, Shadow/Intruder.

The Yamaha Virago 250 or 535 are good bikes, The 535 has a shaft drive, not sure about the 250. The Ltd 454 have the same engine as the GPz500s which can get a bit rattly and have the tendancy to chew up starter clutches, which in turn wreaks the altinator. So make sure the starter mechanism is quiet and that the battery is charging.

I'm looking at one tomorrow. An '86 with 22k on it. Needs a few bits, but it seems to be a good price.
Are the starter and alternator difficult to fix? Are replacements readily available?
This one needs new speedo and tacho cables and a new battery according to the owner.
Is buying a bike the same as a car, paperwork wise?
Any things to look out for in general when viewing bikes?

    Cheers

I bought second hand parts and fit them myself, but I have mechanical training. If the battery is bad then the owner may have been push starting the bike, if so then make sure to hear the starter motor in action (maybe bring jump leads?) A broken speedo cable means the mileage is not correct!! Paperwork is the same as when buying a car. I turned down one of these last year at €500, it also needed a few bits. Only buy a bike like this if you dont mind doing a bit of DIY repairs now and then.
