bubble situation

21 left in an online donkament, why I am playing I don't know (probably because I'm too dumb to follow the Lost storyline). First pays 3k, only other real money is in the top 5

top 20 get paid and we have been on the bubble for 20 excruciating minutes with knob jockey shortstacks using their full time bank to fold every time

blinds are 1200/2400, we are 7-handed

I'm in the SB with 19,000. Probably playing 2nd most aggro on the table.
One of the said Knob Jockey shortstacks is BB with 5600 or so, he is desperate to make the money
Table chip leader is UTG with 45,000. He's been playing the bubble well and accumulating chips without much resistance.

UTG limps for 2400. This is highly suspicious as he has been raising 3/4BB as standard regardless of position.

    I look at AQo.

    Your move Mr Bond?

I think most ppl auto push this and then ask themselves why they have realised that UTG has suspiciously limped but failed to use this info to their benefit.

    Nasty situation....
The UTG Limp is always evil, shorty HAS to push given trhe money in the pot.

I fully expect to shove and get called by KJ+

I'm thinking outshove but the limp has me wary

fold i think..you have a decent(ish) stack and the shorties are gonna have to go into push-ville soon..just not worth gettin involved.

If someone who has been playing the bubble for 20 minutes limps , everything except AA goes in the muck , and I sit back and enjoy the party...

if you're playin for top 5 - push
there's only 4 hands you don't wanna see him with and he could limp here with real crap as well as KK, so take the chance

put it this way, he's playing a very good bubble game if he has you considering folding

a little ot, but if someone's been real aggressive it makes absolutely no sense to limp a big hand. Chances are people have their back up ready to play back, and your raises are getting less and less credit. the thing about being agro is that u get paid off!

I remember on tribeca before I really got to grips with 3betting, some guy was doing it constantly to me, I raised jj, full set to go to war with them. this time he smooth calls, sb calls and flops a set on a rag flop, i fold to the action, and the 3bet guy gets stacked with AA. I probably would have felted the jj hand if he had 3bet me, he had tilted me so much.

that said, he's probably limped aa here to get action, and I'd shove, get stacked, moan about the moron and swear never to play donkaments again.

You should probably let the timer tick all the way down like a knobjockey and fold - but you were probably bored so you pushed and got shown AA?

im pushing here. i agree with phantomlord. hes been advertising with his raises over and over again and when he gets a monster he limps hmmmmm....

it does look suspicious but playing for top 5. you could go card dead, dwindle away and say i shoulda pushed with the AQ.

    on another note.
have you ever played just to cash in a tournament el stuntman by running the clock down?

i think you have to sometimes, rarely but sometimes.

like if i get tangled up with another big stack and get my stack destroyed, say i have 2 bb left, i want some roi. unless i find any kinda hand where im likely to be 60/40 im running the clock.

i know im gonna get all the chip and a chair storys(jack strauss etc. etc.) but in the long run..........

How can I answer this question Glyn? It is an online tournament. I can't stare him down to see if he his 'bleeding eye' tell is in operation or not.

wtf is a bleeding eye tell?

it's a genuine question...check (meaning to CRAI obv.) or bet?

CRAI, he isnt checking an a high flop and it does matter cos he will prob take a stab with underpairs etc that he would fold if we led.

Bond movie related poker joke. Sigh.

LL - there's only one man on this forum who's allowed to make movie references in his posts and it ain't you

your logic is good however: it went down like this

    I checked

    BB checked

    UTG bet 5400

    I CRAI

    BB folded

UTG surprisingly insta-called with AA (BB typed "yessssss!!", lol you truly are a knob jockey) and I nodded my head in resigned fashion and went to bed steaming from every orifice

I'm glad none of you other donkeys (aprt from bubbleking) would have got away from it either though. I don't play many online donkaments but in my experience, big stacks doing this around the bubble nearly always means a monster - sadly, I continually fail to translate each learning experience into positive action :(

The AA UTG limp / limp reraise has gotten so widespread these days that I get MUTBS everytime I get JJ/QQ in LP and it's been limped around. I did it the other night with KQo. Everyone instafolded. Tough spot. There are so many donks who limp all kinds of crap UTG its hard to know what to do anymore.

I'm going broke here everytime aswell. I also freely admit that I would have considered it likely he has the boots and notwithstanding I wouldn't lay my AQ.

I simply cannot explain why it is that when we train ourselves to "read" opponents and get it right, we still make the wrong decision. It's quite scary really. :(

Not every tournament has a structure that dictates the runaway chip leader has 20 BBs come bubble time.

    only the good ones....
