    Spec/features/blurb here

Seems it doesn't come with a USB cable and you have to buy that seperately (mentions it on the update available for the F20).

I rang my local branch and they still have it for 169..think i'll risk it and see what it's like !

[EDIT] Looking at Argos blurb here, it mentions pre-installed maps of UK/Ireland and doesn't mention any kind of subscription for updates included (knowing our luck the irish ones will be woefully out of date) so I may hold off until I can do some more research on it.

Says preinstalled maps for 21 countries.

Dont know when I'll get a chance to pop up to extravision

I bought one of these units direct from Navman last week for €159 via a caravan club offer. I live in portlaoise and turned it on when it arrived. it has only got major road maps on it.

I emailed Navman about this and this was their reply.

"Unfortunately the maps of Ireland have 40% - 60% coverage and only really covers major roads and city's. The company who supply our maps is called Teleatlas, they buy maps of the country from the government bodies as well as drive around the roads, Ireland however refuse to sell these maps and therefore Teleatlas has to manually drive around Ireland to map the roads. This is why Ireland has such a poor coverage"

Not very good at all - especially when they advertise as having irish maps installed. I sent it back and got a refund and got a Garmin unit from Halfords instead with full map support upto date as of september/october 2006.

Hope the above helps someone out.

    regards

I picked up the TomTom One (Europe) in Halfords(LV) today.
According to the TomTom website it retails at 349 but H had it for 299.
Its a very nice bit of kit.

Hi Eyes, I got it in Liffey Valley. The receipt states that there is a promotional discount of €50.

I'll check Ballymoe later and try and get a picture up for you.
Well Rosenallis(find that on a map!) is on it and there isn't much to it!

One thing that does bug me is that it will show my street on the map but not on the location lookup-but I can choose location from the map so its not that much of an issue.

This is a bit off-topic, but the Irish OS are able to make commercial arrangements on their maps. They do indeed sell map information. Microsoft's local.live.com seems to have the same road detail as the discovery series maps.

But this must be why it's on such a discount.

I just discovered the other day that there is a GPS forum on Boards!

The Lads and Lassies over there should have the answers to the mapping debate.

From the little I read, I think, the latest version of TeleAtlas maps is nearly as good as the Navtec maps!
