Xbox Live with 1MB BT line and Xbox 1 - worth it?

Kid has an Xbox 1, I've a 1MB BT line. He wants Xbox Live in his bedroom and I was thinking of using something like this on eBay, rather than wi-fi. Any views/tips? Will 1MBs down/128KBs up be OK? Where's the best place to buy the kit, Argos @ €59.99 for a 12-month sub?

Don't know about the mains networking but the 1M broadband was always good enough for using Live when I had that option before.

As for the Live sub you can pay for it though the xbox itself, you get a month for free when you first connect a 360 to Live and create an account, but if you then pay for it through the dashboard your credit card details will be kept on the account allowing MS points to be purchased as well which you probably don't want. The 12 month subscription cards should be the same price for cash though in any game shop.

Edit: Sorry, just noticed you are on about an original xbox there so ignore my wittering about points etc. The sub is the same price though and can only be bought through the cards if I remember correctly.

    Cheers, robinph.

Is there any difference (other than price!) between Irish-bought cards and the ones I see on eBay for $39.99..? Even with delivery they'd be a good €20 cheaper, the way the dollar is right now...

The codes for the cards cna be region locked, the 12 month sub from the US will work on a xbox account linked to a US hotmail account, but the 13 month one won't.

You need to buy european region subs if you want to use a european region xbox live account.

Not trying to hijack thread but just a quick question.
Have 2Mb broadband from Bt. Thinking of upgrading to 3Mb package with phone package because of just getting an Xbo 360 and seem to be getting close to 20 gig download cap. Would there be much difference in upload/download speeds for playing on live with 360.

FWIW, paddyk, I've been with BT for two years and regularly exceed my cap. They've never yet billed me/contacted me/'throttled' me ;) (but they do reserve the right to...). In fact, it's the main (only) reason I haven't moved to another provider, because their billing ops are, well, only infamous.

I'd wait and see, unless you really want/need the extra speed?

@johnnyflav — my hotmail addy is a US one. So I should be able to use a bog-standard 12-month card bought from the US? It won't matter that it's an Irish-bought console/Irish IP address?

Would there be much of a noticeable difference?, Have not played much on live but have read lots of moans about slow connections ruining games.

If your buying a Xbox Live subscription from Ebay make sure they will E-mail you the code because it is quicker and usually free.
