Bass strings.

Hi All,

My Bass arrived today but the A string machine head was broken in transit

I have contacted the seller to get information about the heads so I can get a new set. The current ones are black and I prefer the big chrome ones.

Anywho, the current strings seems to be 3 of one set and 1 of another set so I guess I'll need new strings.

Can you recommend a decent set of Bass strings. They seem to range from €10 to €40+ on Ebay.

Start with Rotosound roundwounds (the ones with red silk not the blue ones) and take it from there.

It depends on what type of sound you want. Roundwounds will give you a bright crisp sound (but can also produce finger noise) while flats will give a more warm mellow tone. There are a lot of choices.

I tried those Rotosounds with the red silk, they sounded lovely, very bright, but they were a bit rough and they went completely dead after about a couple weeks' playing.

I think those ones don't have the silk but are pretty much the same string. TBH the Rotos don't go dead any quicker than D'Addarios or Ernie Balls in my experience. Only the SR2000s seemed to have a prolonged life of the strings I've tried over the years. The Rotos have a growl that the others don't have which just sounds divine on a P or J. Magic bleedin strings on a traditional design in my humble opinion, though they do give your callouses a thorough test.
