Are VLANs and subnetting the same thing basically

    Isn't a VLAN at the switch level achieving the same thing as subnetting at the router level?

    In some ways, you achieve isolation between ports at that Level, but that's about it. There are too many differences between the levels of isolation and the actual mechanics to say they are the same per-se.
