Never thought It would happen to me, Had same phone sim card for 5 years, nearly 200 phone numbers etc on it...Lost My phone on friday night..Disaster !
My aunt gave me a sim card reader for christmas, I left it on a shelf till thursday night, Was looking for something else and opened it, copied all the data to my pc, Saturday went in to vodafone who gave me a new sim card with my old number went home and put all my numbers on my new sim. Well worth the money, they are very cheap looks something like this.........

"12 IN 1 SUPER SIM CARD READER WRITER MOBILE PC" <Link removed. Deal with it.>

Was going to post this to mobile section of boards but thought more folk would see it here....Very handy little gadget...Probably available in shops.

I have about 4000 of them in work, Sandisk delivered them to my job by mistake.

handy things to have if you use them.

I was getting a new phone from O2 and had to get my numbers over to a new sim. The guy in the shop slaps it into that thingy, copies the stuff over and pops the new sim into my new phone. I get home and find out that only a couple of my numbers copied over :(

Luckily, I follow InFronts' line of thinking and keep all my numbers written down (I was a Cub!).

Nokia PC suite does the whole thing as well. Just download it and connect to your phone using bluetooth or IR. It is not much good if you don't have bluetooth or IR.

You can get the USB-phone data cables on ebay for only few quid. I wouldn't buy any of the (ridiculously overpriced) accessories in shops here.

anyone with a sony-ericsson phone can also use this free opensource program to backup. its far and away better than the crap supplied with the phone. http://tinyurl.com/5xbde. it works with serial , usb and bluetooth. it also installs phonetools on your phone so you can remote control your pc over bluetooth.

What are the other 11 things that it does to make it a "12 in 1 sim card reader" then?

On a lot of phones the SIM only holds so many numbers and after that the numbers are saved to the phone itself so copying the SIM won't bring them across.

Interestingly enough when I put my old SIM in a new phone recently a load of really old numbers that I had deleted years ago started coming up even though the SIM was supposedly full it was still holding lots of numbers that it was supposed to have deleted.
