Teeth straigthening - Invisalign?

    Hi,

My wife (mid-30's) is looking at getting her teeth straightened (middle 4 teeth on top) and is looking at options - normal braces and Invisalign braces.

We have heard that the monthly tightening involved with normal braces sometimes causes pain in the teeth for a couple of days afterwards and can also cause headaches. Is this true?

The other option is the Invisalign route. Has anyone here have any experience of or know anyone who has used Invisalign braces and what is their opinion?

    Thanks.

Yeah braces do make your teeth sore when they get tightened, and they do leave your gums feeling tender. Or at least they did in my experience. Not sure about the headache bit, it never really got that bad for me personally. In fact I would say the greater pain was the psychological scarring:D

I'm not really sure what the story is with those low visibility braces you mention. Although I do know they are more expensive than your run of the mill mouthful of steel apparatus.

Not really, they're sposta cost around the same

I guess they'd be more over here cos not many dentists use them, although the number are rising fast

I'm 33 and have had Invisalign for 8 months now (nearly finished). They're about the same price as ordinary braces and much better if you have to sit in business meetings and talk to people!

Anyway, any braces involve a day or two of tightening periodically, including Invisalign. You move to the next set of molds with Invisalign and they feel tighter, nearly to the point of giving you a headache, but this goes away in a day or two.

I have been very happy with my experience but they are not recommended for all cases - a good orthodontist should tell your wife whether or not she's a suitable candidate.

    Hi there,

Do you know of anyone who used this brace just to straigten one tooth?

Hi guys. I've got lingual braces on at the moment - they are the ones that are put onto the backs of your teeth. Anyway I am three months into the treatment and am beginning to see results. I had heard terrible horror stories about the pain associated with lingual braces and how your tongue would be all cut up from the brackets, etc. but I honestly didn't find it tood bad. My tongue was slightly tender for a couple of days after the brackets were intially put on and I also had a bit of a lisp for 3-4 days but these problems soon disappeared. My teeth do be a bit sore for a couple of days after a new wire is put on but its really not that bad. Hope this is of help to anyone thinking of getting braces. By the way mine are working out at 6000 euro just in case anyone is interested in the cost or comparing prices.

I am interested in getting invisalign braces on just my top teeth because i have mild overcrowding. I am wondering if anybody knows approx. how much it would cost? What are other options if I can't get Invisalign?

The only place I've heard of that does Invisalign is Smiles Dental Spa in Dublin, does anbody know if they're good or if there's anywhere better?

A lot more places are doing Invisilign nowadays, you just have to ring around. They generally cost between 5000 - 5750 for top & bottom.

I tried the braces where you just put a thing like a gumshield in your mouth at night and nobodys the wiser. Total waste of time and money, it only minorly improved my teeth.

There's no way around it and you're going to have to bite the bullet. If you want 100% perfect teeth then braces are the way to go!

    Hi there,

I have my appointment at half 3 this evening to see what kind of braces I will need to get, I would hope to get the Invisalign, but depending on the cost!!

I am getting them done in Sligo, with David McConville, he is now doing the invisalign braces too!

It will be interesting to see the price differnence between the different options, im 21, quite vain, so really dont want them to be too obvious!!

Can anyone let me know their experiances with the invisalign!!

    Thanks

I am about 6 months into invisalign treatment with Dr. Philip McDermott in Ashbourne. I had an aligner on my top for 4 months and will have 8 months in total for my bottom and it's costing €3,800. This was by far the cheapest I found and the service has been excellent. He does free consultations too I believe.
People are already commenting on my lovely straight teeth and I'm only finished the top! It takes a bit of getting used to and is uncomfortable at first, but after a couple of weeks it was no hassle at all... I'd definitely recommend it! Especially as it means being able to eat as normal and not having metal attached to your teeth!

I've 4 weeks left with Invisalign and I'm really happy with the results. As you change your set every two weeks you can really feel the weeks passing and you compare the different sets from when you first started. I'm very glad I did it even though I was apprehensive at first. I'd recommend anyone who's thinking of it to go for it.

Can these help if you've a crossbite?

Had braces years ago and stopped wearing the retainer. Before had braces I had this thing first that pushed my side teeth outward now they've started to contract.

I was the same with not wearing my retainer. It's definitely worked on my crossbite but I think it'll depend on the severity of the problem.

May i ask how long you were wearing invisalign and how much it cost? Im tight with money right now and hoping that my problem can be fixed with a slight shift in 1 or 2 teeth. (its just my top and bottom incisor crossbiting) Hoping it wont cost me like 6000+

Bloody Mary, if you don't mind giving this information, where are you getting your Invisalign treatment? Also, have people noticed you are wearing braces?

I have Invisalign and people really don't notice. I don't think anyone's ever noticed mine (if they have they haven't said anything!). I've told quite a few people that I have them and they still can't see them unless they stare right up close.

    Mine cost €5900 btw

Thanks Eva - that is great to hear. I have an appointment with an ortho in a fortnight's time and I really hope she will say that my teeth are suitable (a dentist has already recommended Invisalign for me).

I don't think I've ever met anyone with Invisalign. I looked at pictures online - they look a bit like you have a weird shiny coating on your teeth. Is this true in real life? Also, do they cause any lisping? Are they useful for very crooked teeth or only mild cases?

They do look a bit like a shiny coating but it's not really noticeable to other people. But tbh I couldn't care less if people do notice - there's nothing wrong with straightening your teeth. I originally intended getting train tracks & only went with Invisalign because my ortho recommended them & said they'd work in half the time (one year as opposed to two years with train tracks). I also liked the idea of being able to take them out to eat/brush my teeth, and not having metal cutting my mouth.

Yeah they do cause lisping while your tongue gets used to them. Mine lasted quite a while - think it took about two weeks to go away completely. Think most peoples are gone after a few days though.

I don't think they're good for really crooked teeth but it depends on the case. I've seen pics of people with much worse looking teeth than mine with them. Best thing is to go for a consultation to see if you're a possible candidate. My teeth weren't hugely crooked to start but my bite's way off so they're correcting this too as well as my snaggle tooth :pac:

Gilblets1067 do mind mind saying where you got the lingual done? I've been given a quote of 7,000 for the upper and lower sets.
    Thanks
