Are you making your way yourself?

I'd say you'd have a better chance of finding out here

no there will be 3 of us. its just that were travelling through vietnam from the south and it would be alot handier to cross over the border to laos further north.

    heya mac123,

i'm in vietnam now and we were going to head up to the same border crossing. I'm nearly 100% sure its open but be prepared to hand over a few extra dollars 'admin fee' to the border guards. They just announced recently that they were opening about 20 more crossings between laos/vietnam in the next few weeks.

We decided to fly from hanoi to vientenne instead. It only cost 40US and saved a 72hr arse-breaking bus journey, dont believe them if they say it takes 24!! checkout laos and vietnam airlines. You cant book over the net, must go into an office, and they generally only take cash.

    talesofasia.com is a good resource.

I dont check web very often, so good luck and happy travelling.

    M.

$40 for that flight is a serious bargain. The bus journey took me about 28 hours I think!

I've done the legendary bus journey too. Its the stuff of nightmares - but also something of an experience. Sometimes its worth the pain...but i certainly wouldn't do it second time round and was a happy camper taking my air asia flight back to bkk!
