Illiteracy of a Sort??

Ok this is going to sound incredibly odd but has caused me a lot of concern over the years. Badically I had an absolutey crap Primary School teacher who while placing a huge degree of emphasis on learning to read quickly never really taught us how to write properly. Its not that I'm illiterate but it is a serious pain in that I know there are eight year olds who can write faster than I can and this has been a serious issue in exams because although I might have the information I can't get it all down at the same pace as other people.

Its not that this has caused me any major problems and I have a good Degree and I am well into a Masters. The problem is that I know that this has affected my performance in exams and my job will neccesitate me to do many more exams in the coming years aswell as note taking at meetings etc and I am embarassed at the fact that I am not able to produce documents etc at the same speed as everyone else due to lack of proficiency in a skill that most people take for granted - the ability to write clearly and quickly.

What I am wondering is have other people had similiar difficulties and how have they addressed them? Is there anyone who would be able to help with such problems in the Dublin area?

I realise this is a bit of an unusual question but this is somthing that has caused me a great deal of concern over the years and I would appreciate any help and ideas which people might be able to offer

Ive a relativly simmilar issue altugh speed isnt really a problem my handwriting is almost ilegible, I still managed to get a degree etc but It has always cost me marks in exams and I am certin if noe for it I would have passed recent professional exams(I failed by 1%)
Its not so much an Issue in work as I type everything out
I cant offer any solution just that a lot of people suffer with writing and you cetinaly not alone

Relax DerekD, you must be like every doctor in the country.:)
I've never yet gotten a prescripton that was handwritten clearly.

Maybe you could do a course in shorthand? I'm sure there are such courses out there.

Every VEC school in the country offers help with this. Contact your local one and you will find trained people willing to help.

You are obviously not illiterate, but your handwriting is causing you a problem in your life. You are exactly the sort of person they are there to assist. Their night-time literacy and numeracy classes are not just for people who cannot read.
You will be dealt with one-to-one if you want, or in a small group.
You might even like to eventually help out yourself an hour a week or so.

Congrats on taking the first steps to sorting this out for yourself.
