Heads up $20 tournament. Hero (2200) Villian (1800)
    Blinds 30/60

    Hero SB [8d10d]
    Villian BB

Hero raises to 120 (he folds alot to min raises preflop)
    Villian raises to 260
    Hero calls 140

    Flop Ad 10c 3d (520)
    Villian bets 320
    Hero raises to 700
    Villian calls

    Turn 6s (1920)
    Villian checks
    Hero checks

    River 9c (1920)
    Villian checks
    Hero checks

Just a few questions about this kind of situation when you flop a pair and a flush or straight draw. Should I be raising on the flop here? I figure it should get me a free card going to the river if I don't fill up on the turn and if he pushes on the flop I'm happy enough to call so....? Should I bet the turn or does my check behind reek horribly of a flushdraw? I suppose my check behind on the river is standard as I have some showdown value..? My line on the turn is what I'm most concerned about. I was putting him on JJ,QQ,KK or some sort of nervous ace.

    bet turn and river.

if this was HU from a tournie of 9-10 players, i go to town with this.

since its heads up match and blinds are lower i might not ( i dont play them often)

if you're gonna rause: raise more on the flop. then shove the turn.

I would just call the flop and then push in over his turn bet or bet big if checked to. You raised so small he is going to definitely call with any ace and big pairs

surely your equity in the hand is much lower on the turn though, and what if the flush hits the turn, we arent likely to get paid off.

I raise more on the flop. checking behind on the turn might be best, depending on opponent.

He showed AJo which I found a bit surprising. I suppose he put me on a flush draw when I checked behind on the turn and gave me a chance to bluff the river. I wouldn't have pushed him off this on the turn but if he has JJ-KK I probably would so..meh. I think if I raise much more on the flop I have no choice but to push the turn with so much chips in the pot.
Like any hand there's a lot of ways to play it i guess

Flop - ahead, but oh so marginally. You are behind if he has even one diamond.
    Turn behind.

His betting screams of a weakish ace, and he probably never folds on any street unless you hit. He played this awfully I think.

I read theory of poker recently and was pretty much trying to apply the "raising to get a free card" thing here - which worked. I posted the hand really cause I'm unsure of whether or not I should have bet the turn - or whether I was correct to raise on the flop at all. A bet on the turn here will probably get JJ QQ KK to fold. In this particular hand obviously he wouldn't fold AJ unless he was uber tight. The thing is if he has any of those type hands(JJ-KK) he'll probably check the turn to me anyway if I just call the flop bet which is why I'm wondering if HJ's line is best and if my raising to get a free card was pointless if the villian had played the hand a bit more aggressively.
I'm never quite sure what to do when I'm fairly sure I have the worst hand but the best draw and the winning/losing of it is in the balance
