WMP Plays audio files but not video files

WMP has all of a sudden stopped playing video files of any sort. It was working fine up until about half an hour ago. When I try to open a video file it says "Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error". I can still open the video files in divx player but they also crash media player classic. Any ideas as to what…

Downloaded XP Codec Pack from Free-codecs.com and that seems to have done the trick
