Has anyone noticed that the new GAA website (www.gaa.ie) is now much slower than the old one? I thought upgrades were supposed to make things better!!

I have indeed noticed. Between them and RTE, they couldn't make half a decent website.

Just did a bit of research on this.

Their new website (with IP address 202.76.250.191) is hosted in Sydney, Australia. Therefore any web request is taking 500ms whereas on average websites hosted in Ireland take 100ms if accessed from an Irish PC (from my tests).

Now which bright spark in the GAA made the decision to host their website in Oz when I'd say most of the web requests actually come from Ireland?....

Maybe they got a cheap deal but never actually tested the speed??
