"Conscious"

    Hi everyone.

When I first started contributing to this forum, I flagged that I was working on a horror film. Both my cohort (Niallon) and I believe that the genre has been neglected and abused in Ireland. So we set off on a path to damascus. I'm a reject:D (long story) from film school in Dun Laoghaire many many years ago. My horror genre interests weren't welcome at the time. So after a year there, I set off on the path of Corporate/Promotional video hell. But it paid the bills. After a break from behind the camera, Ive been tempted back to fullfill my lifetime ambition.....shoot a feature length horror in Ireland. All I have to back this up is copious amounts of 8mm footage from the 80s and a **** load of corporate/educational/music nonsense from more recent years.

    Anyway, we are currently shooting the live action segments for our teaser. Our new web site for the project is nearly ready and we hope to have a definitive introduction to the project ready very soon. In the meantime we have been experimenting with our teaser and trialing various different types of software. The very basic results of this are available on line now;

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZsXg0nMxP0

This is just a test for us, but we want to document it all from the very beginning. The final teaser will be available on our youtube site soon and we anticipate adding cast and crew interviews as we go along.

The production of "Conscious" is being funded by its makers and its ultimate destination is DVD. That does not mean that production values are low. However, to aim this at cinema release would be futile.(on an obvious cost basis) To go through the funding process of making a short would compromise a good script and most probably lead nowhere. We have decided to follow a different route and we are posting details here first, as we appreciate the interest of the horror fan and any discussion regarding horror film production in Ireland. When our web site and final teaser is complete we will be making it available on dedicated film making forums.

For now, we invite you to watch the very first steps (very basic we know) of a project that has been over a year in planning. We would also like to hear from anyone interested in lending a hand (no matter what skill you can offer) as we think this is perhaps the first real attempt to create a genuinely original horror film in Ireland.

Dereks nailed it really so I'll just add that a lot of love for the genre is going into this project. Originality is priority and if anyone feels they would like to get involved I'm sure they will find that we are very passionate about getting this made. Hope you like the little piece we've scraped together and feedback is most welcome!

    Hi Derek,

A bit early to be discussing music/sound ambience but feel free to trawl my page on labelsound If you should like what you hear I can knock out a CD of audio wav "grumbles and rumbles" for a minimal fee.

    Mike.

Thank you. It was composed and performed by niallon. At the mo we are adding some extras to the soundtrack to make it more atmospheric in addition to the new footage. We'll post link to final version by early next week.

OK i had look at the trailer and my first impressions were " Oh phycho with knife in bathroom, Looks like a norman bates the next generation "
Then I watched yer interview and how you wanted to make somthing orignal, but that you were very protective of the plot. Im sure you have come up with something orignal but I dident get that from the clip. Perhaps when i watch it again I might. Hope it goes well and keep us informed if there are any more clips, and best of luck with this.

Hey spooky. I hear ya. There may seem to be a lack of originality in some portions of the promo but the mains reason for this is as you said, we are severely protective of the plot. The scenes you see in the promo do feature in the script but are by no means crucial turning points of the story, they are simply the only scenes we thought would be effective enough without revealing any plot details!

    Hey Spooky

Thanks for the support. Niall covered the other aspects, but we welcome all involvement in this production. Neither of us has a horror movie under our belts yet. (at this level) In fact, we don't have any kind of movie under our belts.(again at this level) My own experience is in corporate/music video. This production is a first for us. Obviously we know the game and whats required, but we are open to offers of help from everyone. We've done the Promo, now we have to finish off some supporting bits and then we put the web site live. There will be a section for anyone to get involved. If you think you can help in any way, then you're hired for a payment of nothing more than involvement, satisfaction and credit. We want this production to be filled with people who have an interest in filmmaking and in particular the horror genre. We have many roles to be filled.

Trendkill is right about filmmakersnetwork.com. Its a cool place. It was he, who put me onto it.

yeah cool if i was to help out it was not for money, more outa intrest. My father worked in the Irish Film industry for years though now long retired, so ive seen a little of what goes on in the background but little more.

I want to take another look at yer stuff on you tube and try to give some more constuctive comments. I only got to have 1 quick look at the teaser when my son (9) came in the room so I had to turn it off, witch says somthing good about the teaser for sure. Am hope fulll this sees the light of day soon and goes really well for ye.
