    Hey,

Just back from playing cash in the Fitz. This incident occurred as I preparing to leave.

I get dealt AK in MP.

Guy to my left raises to 10 and I re-raise to 30. He calls and I say "Good luck, I don't like this hand though..."

Flop comes something like 59x, and I motion to check OOP, and say if he checks I check. I don't think he head me exactly so said something like "You want to check it?". I say yeah and so we both check.

Turn comes another 5, check, check.

River brings the King, and I ask what the pot is. Now, I usually say "what is the pot?", as opposed to "pot" so I don't commit myself.

I'm told 85, at which point the guy in the hand with me groans and I think he asked "were we not going to check it out". I say I meant the flop, and never said myself "check it out". That being said, I think he felt I agreed to do so when he asks what I meant earlier.

I think for a sec, and was going to take the 85 back, but the dealer says I have to put it in now, as I said pot. I'm not sure if I did or not, but that doesn't matter.

So I put it in and the guy beside me isn't too happy, says "I know the King hit you", gives it 20 secs or so and calls.

I ask if he has better than a pair, and show the AK. He throws pocket Q's on the table and is obviously pissed off.

Basically, he obviously felt I meant check the whole thing when genuinely didn't... Anyway, he left soon after but told me a few times I should have given in some of the pot back...

    What ya think?

Yeah you should give him half the pot. And while you are at it, why not throw him an extra few hundred for being a top bloke. I would say about a grand should cover it.

Why on earth would he agree to check it down on that flop??

Although it sounds like you agreed to check the whole hand down, I'd probably be pissed off too, although I'd never agree to check it down after seeing that flop.

He didn't have to call - forget about it.

The usual phrase is to check in the dark. Just say that and then there'd be no confusion as that only covers one round.

just be polite to him so he comes back and gives you more money.

he's a worse fool for checkin it down with pocket queens, he should have bet the flop or at least the turn and taken it down there, like...wat was he gonna gain by checkin it down, he just gave u free chances to hit

i dont mean to be rude but , are you being serious here?

1st you dont like AK, then he agrees to check it down with QQ on that board..then you hit your K he acknowledges that fact then calls your 85.

:confused::confused: the etiquette Q is the least of both your problems if this is true.

I don't like AK.. What's the problem? Especially live when you get more people calling PF raises, so when you don't hit it can be very difficult to c-bet your way out.

As for checking it down with QQ, that's not something I would do. We were getting on quite well before this, so maybe he just thought he'd take the pot as is.

Acknowledging my K, and then calling. This is something you see a lot in the Fitz, calling just to confirm your suspicions or "to make sure I was right".

exactly checking it down should not be an option anyway, if ur gonna play like that go play golf with the guy!

oh well then the correct thing to do is, take the 85 quid and take him out for a meal tonight, if it doesnt work out, well take the buckle to him as HJ suggested

    he deserves it

flat call of your 30 pre flop with QQ, checking three streets. no sympathy for him (unless he is someone who values friendship at a poker table more than winning 255euro)

lol - sorry couldnt stop laughing after that last sentence!

    Get a penpal!

id kick him in the nuts. you did nout wrong. hes an idiot and you have to take advantage of idiots . as for him telling you you owed him some of the pot i woulda got a bit p1ssed there and said something to finish the debate there and then. but to be honest it sounds peculiar. even an idiot isnt agreeing to check that down. he must be a complete retard in which case he shoudnt be playing poker for money and should be in a home. this would be apparent to you as your not blind so it was very bad etiquette to take money from a retard. shame on you you swine
