    Hi,

Ive looked through all the sites in the sticky, trouble is i dont know much about the specs etc so im just looking for some general advice.

I want a nice ipod/zen etc where i can put a load of music onto and go for a cycle and it will play them randomly, id also need a good pair of headphones that will be comfortable with cycling. Because of this i wouldnt find video ipods much use but i definetely want a nice interface for choosing songs individually if i wish. Nothing worse than them ipods that look like a memory stick with a 2 line display.

Also with the headphones is there any wireless type ones handy for cycling. Id prefer to buy online like the likes of komplett.ie or similar

    Thanks

Well if you don't mind the 8gb storage the iriver clix2 seems like a good option as it was a gorgous look user interface and it is quite small.

Then theres always the thin ipod nano or the equally thin samsung K3, although the latter is limited to 4gb.

Another two options are the Sandisk Sansa and the Creative Zen V+.

My final recommendation is a real bargain, it has great sq, plenty of nifty features and does not cost alot at all,its the Meizu M6. Cleary it takes a leaf out of apples book in terms of design but it improves upon every aspect of the ipod, and its damn cheap. Its also available up to 8gb.

Ipod is just a brand name. You shouldn't call all mp3 players ipods.

and you should call hoovers vaccuum cleaners, but how many of us do that? :D

Depends on the context. I need fix my hoover vs I need to a buy a Hoover or a Dyson.

Thanks Mactard very helpful, i think ill go for the Creative Zen, looks the part.

Sorry for misusing the word ipod:p but if i was going out to buy a vacuum cleaner i would still say "im going to buy a hoover" even though its incorrect.
I use shorthand when typing text messages too but i wont lose any sleep over it:D

no it doesn't :D hoover is a brand name, like ipod, which we in general use to refer to vaccuum cleaners.

No problem dvdfan, the good thing about the zen is its is very easy to come by and its well supported by creative....enjoy your new toy :D

Hoover is a verb which the iPod isn't. AFAIK not yet anywayz

Test your theory go in and ask for an iPod and see if they give you a Zen. ;)

Personally I've never heard of someone use iPod to refer to a vaccum cleaner. :D

    1) Hoover is not a verb, officially :)

    2) I am quite sure they would point out many DAP's if i wanted a sales rep to tell me about an ipod.

    3) Haha.

Meh, IMO its ubiquitous, unlike an iPod.

If iPod was a generic term as you suggest you should have said iPods, but no you used DAPs. Is a creative Zen or any of those other players an iPod? I don't think so. But they are all MP3 Players or DAP's. I think you can categorise them in a couple of useful ways.

Hard Disk based players, less robust and thus less suitable for sports but bigger in size and capacity
Flash memory based players more robust and thus suitable for sports but smaller in size and capacity
Filetree based players which you can use file names then other players which don't use file names but tags.
Players that play video, and those that don't. Players with FM Radios and those that don't.
Player with tactile actual buttons, and those with touch sensitive controls which are harder to use in your pocket, or when your hands are sweaty in a gym or running.
Then theres Dynamic Playlists and podcasts, DRM etc to consider.

    Etc etc.

Really? so If you ask a non native english speaker they will know what hoover means? no, they wont, because in all likelihood their translation will be of vacuum cleaner, not the brand name Hoover.
    BostonB wrote:

No, I used DAP's because it is the correct term to use, and the term which I use, none the less I have no issue with anyone calling DAPs ipods.

I am under the impression that you think I would call DAPs ipods, but I would never do such a thing, none the less it is funny that you should think this.

So here is where we are.

    1) I call DAPs DAPs

2)you think I am another ipod fanboy, you are incorrect, I have no loyalty to any company

3)rather than argue the point I made about a retail assistant showing a range of DAPs when asked about ipods you choose to focus on the fact that I called DAP's DAP's.

4)you are not disagreeing the earlier point 3, as such the conclusion can be made that you agree with the previous point 3 and as such that it is fully expectable to expect one in the position of selling DAP's to understand, when asked about ipods, that a consumer may in-fact not be limiting his/her question to solely the Apple ipod, and as a result it is perfectly acceptable for anyone at all to call a DAP an ipod, because frankly, who gives a shizzzzy? Please, visit me on DAPreview if you wish to continue this pointless argument, simply post in the chatbox and I'll find ya :D

JPA's comment was regarding calling "all" DAPs, iPods.
IMO its more useful, simpler and correct not to.

This thread has gone very off-topic and pointless me-thinks...

back on topic, the small Creative's are quite nice, know few people with them... The iPod nano is nice too, if a bit fragile feeling (i've only held them a few times, they might be tough out...)
Regarding the headphone, you'll probably have to buy them seperate, generally its just regular earphones that come bundled with mp3 players...

oh sucra thats right.... well I personally don't know of any viable wireless headphones solutions and the only ones I can think of cost a hefty wad of euro, they are the Creative SE2300.... very expensive. :(
