Next to the Biosphera shopping center, about 5 minutes walk from the Fariones Hotel, there's three great restaurants: El Tomate; Tomatissimo (owned by the same people); and Bistro Montemartre. We loved Bistro Montemartre and would strongly recommend booking a table in advance as it's quite busy. Food is French quisine and is well priced. Great wine list too.

If you carry on around to the harbour there are loads of seafood restaurants, most of which are decent enough and all are cheap.

There are loads of restaurants along the seafront, but try to avoid the Lanis chain if you can, food and service are terrible. As you walk the seafront you'll see they have a lot of steak houses, pizzerias and TexMex places.

If you make it to Matagorda, there's a commercial center on the beachfront and on the first floor of that, there's an Indian Restaurant called Steves Balti House. Owned by a Mancunian and run by a Brum, the food is great and the guys are really nice. Would especially recommend the Balti Butter Chicken.

And the Irish restaurant in Matagorda is pretty good! Particularly liked those tomato places!

I'd second Montmartre - gorgeous restuarant - ask for a table downstairs.
Try Oscars - its about 5 mins from the shopping centre in the opposite direction to Montmarte and EL Tomate - owed by an Irish guy and his Spanish wife. Food is fab! Service is nice and leisurely, which is the way I like it.

Apparently there's a great Polish/Irish restaurant in the old town called Bodega (sp?) I haven;t been to it myself but have heard good things about it since my last visit to Lanzarote.

As mikedragon32 said avoid anything Lanis branded - loads of them along the strip. They are average at best and the kind of places that are bringing out your main course when you've barely finished your starter which I detest.
Has a lovely experience with raw chicken in one near the casino :(

So is Puetro Del Carmen the best place to stay?

(Couple Mid thirties, looking for nice bars & restaurants, bit of craic but nothing too lively....thinking of going in September/October)

Personally, I'd never go back to Lanzarote. Been a couple of times, but last time was dreadful. With the exception of the places I mentioned above, food and service was awful. I found a lot of the locals to be rude no matter how we attempted to deal with them, be it in bars, restaurants, car hire, busses. The only places where we were treated like human beings seemed to be foreign-owned (as in not local) businesses.

If you do go, don't stay in Puerto del Carmen, go for Matagorda instead, a couple of kms outside the main resort. That was you can head into PdC when you want the bars and craic and then you can have your nice leisurely nights when you want them.

It's a shame that I feel this way about it, because it's a beautiful island with loads to see and do.

The Polish/Irish one Bodega is excellent well worth a visit , also Quintins is Irish owned , worth a visit , make a booking first . I would agree about Lanis dont even think about going to any of them

La Cascada Puerta was really good. It's also near the shopping centre.

Definatley go to Lanzarote! I love it! I've been there three times and I adore it! Its far from your Ibiza holiday! Lots of nice restaurants and pubs! The beach is beautiful! and weather is nice all year round! Enjoy it!

Been here a few days now i found bodega´s average (altho there was a gang of 12 of us) and El tomate over-rated! (Sorry guys!)

Gonna try some of the places around the harbour tonight. There are an abundance of irish bars here and most of them are tacky. The old town deffo nicer than the "new town". Lookin for some live music tonite

I have been to Lanzarote twice now and it is a brilliant place to visit. There is a great mix of everything there. El Tomate is a must and far from over-rated !! The best meal of the holiday.

Looks like el tomate is one of those places where its down to opinion. Others have been now and some said good, some said bad. Alot of people though feel its all very rushed - get you in and out

that's disappointing to hear - they weren't always like that so its a pity they've turned into the typical holiday bums on seat restaurant.

Again, I would recommend Oscars, its a bit more expensive but worth every penny. Ask for a table upstairs.

For a bit of people watching try Route 66 on the new strip - huge bar that gets going after 1 and you could sit there and watch all night!

If you like your Curry, I'd highly recommend Zaffron Indian in the old town. Very friendly, very cheap, very tasty & the beer comes in frosted mugs.

yum yum. went twice & was only there for a week

went 2 years ago and have to say that this:

was the only restaurant worth the money. it's in the middle of the island but absolutely great in the evening and very very chilled out.
    cocktails are fantastic too!

back today - bummer. We found an excellent restaurant called Quintins

    http://www.discoverlanzarote.com/quintins.asp

definitely the best restaurant in lanzarote that ive been in. It would rate better than some restaurants at home! only downer is that we found it on our last nite there, had we known earlier we would have gone a few times!

El Tomate is overrated and the owners are very ignorant .

that's the one I meant! I haven't a clue where I got Oscars from. Sorry faceman - but at least you found it in the end! I ate there twice on my last trip to Lanzarote - absolutely gorgeous. ITs owned by an Irish guy and his Spanish wife.
