We want to hang around bangkok fro a while, head up and do a jungle trek, hit Phuket and the full moon party in Koh Phangan on the 28th aug and then get back to bangkok fro 31st to fly to sydney. Is this possible and could anyone offer more suggestions etc about what to do and also any ideas on Oz would be grately appreciated also.

    Thank you in advance.

hey jrad, was over in thailand for knee surgery last august and had a great time.. i loved it there.. 'The Land of Smiles' offers a massive variety of assets at a minimal price:a full variety of incredible cuisine often served in gorgeous outdoor settings; an intense collection of sights, from glittering, elegant temples to colourful floating markets to lunatic festivals; local people who are more relaxed and charming than they should be under seige by a planeloads of impolite, drunk foreigners, but they keep on smiling, as the sun keeps on shining.

Thailand's beaches are huge, well serviced and in settings that are often strange but always comfortable, busy but relaxed.
The country has all kinds of holidays for all kinds of travellers on all kinds of budgets, from huts on a beach or a mountain to the best hotel in the world, Bangkok's Oriental. And the shopping is sensational - silks, tailor-made outfits in a couple of days, jewelry, wood carvings...This is one of Asia's best countries and a perfect base for travel to other Asian destinations.

i think you might be stretched for time if you want to do a bangkok, a jungle trek and then an island and then back to bangkok- you're basically going to end up travelling, as in airports and buses 4 out of your 10 days which seems a waste.

    Hi Jrad,

It's possible to do all this, but when you're not travelling, you'll be wrecked.

Skip the jungle trek. It's a bus trip up to the North of the country (at least 4/5 hours) each way.

You can fly into Krabi from Bangkok very cheaply. It's a better bet than Phuket.

I'm just back from a 5 month tour of Thailand. Any questions let me know....

Wouldn't he be better off going to Koh Samui or Koh Tao if he wants to get over to Koh Pagnan??

I take it that Krabi is not enroute to koh phangan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,608 ✭✭✭breadmonkey

No but it would take 2 days absolute max to get from say Phi Phi to Koh Phangan.

EDIT: Also, I was under the impression that Krabi was a sh!thole? Never been there myself just what I heard.

I wouldn't bother with Krabi or Phuket - since you're going to Koh Phangan, why not spend some time on Koh Tao and do a dive course? Its a really nice chilled island, and hasn't got the enormous tourist resorts like some places in the west....

Don't do an elephant trek either, PLEASE!

i was in thailand in 2005 and 2006 with boyfriend. Two years ago we spent two days in bangkok, flew to chiang mai (for €20) did a two day trek, flew from chiang mai to phuket, didnt like phuket, loved phi phi, then flew from phuket to koh samui and finally from koh samui to bangkok for return flight, all in two and a half weeks. We were wrecked but was great to see it. The trek was definitely a high light so im not sure i'd leave that out. also there are a few low cost airlines and if you planned your trip in advance and booked flights a while before going, you could get them very cheap.

Last year we did go back to phi phi and didnt like it half as much, it seems to have lost its buzz. it was particularly hard to see that one of the memorial gardens had been built over. The other thing about going down south is the weather will not be great. we went in july last year and it was very very cloudy, same the year before.

Last year we did go to railay beach at Krabi and the weather was good enough here but it was early july. loved the place. the beach was fabulous and not too busy. not a massive amount of nightlife, just a few chilled out bars. hope this doesnt confuse you more

Thank you for all your suggestions......im am liking the idea of a diving course alot. We would be so much interested in seeing temples and all that kinda thing...maybe one or two just to say we had. More interested in going on the tear at night and doing go karting, diving, shooting guns, etc stuff during the day. But i suppose we would end up killing each other if we dont chill out for afew days in between.

would highly recommend diviing in ko tao, went diving with sharks was brillant. course will set u back about 200 euro and each dive after costs about 20 euro, wouldnt recommend going on tear the night b4 diving though, as for koh phanang i stayed in a place called coral bungalows is near hadrin and had a good crowd in place id advise to book early if you want to get accomodation as places fill v.quickly. as for sightseeing would do a tour of koh samui is worth doing. as for prices of everything in thailand haggle haggle haggle you will save yourself a fortune doing this. if your travelling around take tuk tuks on islands have flat fare everywhere, tazi drivers will try to rip you off...but apart from that you will have a brillant holiday in thailand, if your shopping at all go to the mpk centre in bangkok
