Dell USB Keyboard & Mouse problem

I'm trying to use a Dell usb keyboard and mouse on a non-dell system however neither works when the computer boots into Windows. I know the keyboard is being recognised as i can get into the bios or the boot options avaiable when F8 is pressed.
Tried plugging them in after booting up in the hope Windows would see the new hardware and try find drivers for them.
Anyone any ideas on what i can try next?

Was there any software related to the previous keyboard/mouse installed on the system ?

I presume that USB legacy support is enabled in the bios have you tried turning it off though be wary as USB keyboard wont work in bios if you disable it.

Does the keyboard work in safe mode ?

buy usb --> ps/2 adapters for the keyboard and mouse if your pc has ps/2 ports for a keyboard and mouse. that should work i reckon............
