In season 3, that machanic dude starts a strike for the workers. They are arrested as traitors because they strike would have made them easy targets for another Cylon attack. They threaten to shoot them as terrorists until they call off the strike. Then the gov starts negotiations with the workers.

Would anyone join a political party influenced by Battlestar Galatica?
Could we us ea simular tactic with negotiating with the nurse strikers?

    Think about it.
First we arrest the nurses that go on strike for jepordising the lives of those they refuse to care for.
Then negotiate with the nurses that havent striked for better pay and shorter hours.

wait - theres a point here somewhere.
its not a democratic point or one that supports human rights, but if the nursing leaders were threatened with execution for striking, called the strike off and then went into negotiations, there'd be some progress.

it wouldnt prove too popular with amnesty, or the UN or the public tho.
    save it for wartime, tho.

    Alright Don

I was think about that aswell. Adama threatens to shoot Kally and then forces the mechanical dude to cave. Then gives them what they want. The entire episode seems a bit of a cop out to me.

    PS: Battlestarsoc!

Yea, one thing for television, another thing for RL.

Also, I don't pit Bertie in the same league as Bill :D

I'm for the rights of the nurses and they arent endangering anyone: if you had been paying attention they are refusing to assist in elective procedures. Emergencies are still a priority that is not being ignored.

Don't for one second make that assumption the Nurses Union (or whatever their name is?) is willing to put sick and dying people up as ransom.

Next time you want to talk about current events, make sure you know what you're talking about.

Adama threated to shoot Kally as she was a solider and was refusing to carry out a valid and legal militray order aboard a military ship.

I think Adama had no problem with the strikers on civilians ships but he couldn't afford that on the Galactica.

Unions are the way to go although in this country they have become the domain of the civil service and have no use to marginalised private sector workers.

I disagree that the episode was a cop out. Adama and Roslin wanted to improve working conditions, but they could not give in to the strike. As soon as Tyrol called it off, Adama sent him to negotiate with the President. Adama knew Tyrol was right, but he also knew that he had to beat tyrol, he couldn't compromise his command. Also, as Tyrol and Cally were enlisted, they are subject to different laws to civilians, and he could not be seen te negotiate with Tyrol as an equal without compromising the chain of command.

This is just my reading of it, but I think it made sense.
