Microsoft Word - question

I use Microsoft Word to type messages in Outlook and in other documents.

A problem is now occurring and I don't know why. I must have changed some setting accidentally.

If I go back to the middle of a sentence to change something, as I type in the changes the letters immediately in front of the new type start to disappear. The only way I can imput a change is to retype the entire line.

What can I do to make the new type 'push' the existing type ahead of it and not delete it?

    Many thanks.

    D.

    Thanks guys.

I presume you mean the key marked Ins (next to the Delete key). If so, it ain't working. The wrong key?

This has never happened to me before. For what reason might it be happening now?

    Thanks.

    Sorted!

Tools/Options/Edit and clear the Overtype Mode checkbox.

I have NO idea how it became checked in the first place. What a pain!

    Thanks to all.
