    Tried this in another forum to no avail ...

    a quick q. How do bus / luas conductors issue on the spot fines? How do they know who you are?? (can they restrain you and call the coppers if you try do a legger?)

    Every time you go to the dentist they implant these chips into your fillings.. they're basically like miniature passports that contain your name, current address and telephone number and other details about you, including (oddly enough) your marital status (possibly in case the dentist tries it on with you?).

    On every bus and luas they have these special "readers" built into every doorway and each time you step on to one, these pick up your details. If you are caught doing something you're not supposed to, they use their "checkers" (people employed to monitor the implants) to look up your details and thus issue the fine to your current address.

    The moral of the story?
    dont believe everything you read on the internet
