    Hi All,

I rang Carol Nash today to get a quote on an '88 Kawasaki 450 Ltd. The came back with €600. I'm 34 and have never had bike insurance before. I haven't applied for my provisional yet either, just finding out what I can before I commit.
Anyway, how does that quote sound, and what are the general opinions on that type of bike?
I remember a few years ago, some mates had a couple of Ltd454's and I really fell for the style of the bike.
I know very little about bikes in general, so any advice is appreciated!

    Cheers

Try Aon and Quinn direct as well. CN are not always the cheapest for first time riders.

Bike will qualify for classic insurance (about 380) as soon as you pass your test and go to renew. They won't switch you to the classic policy mid-year. This was my experience with CN anhyhow.

I got my first insurance (Suzuki 250cc) last April, best quote was AoN at €288 TPO. Phoned round for renewal this week, CN €482, Quinn €423, AoN €263....no prizes for guessing who I'll be renewing with!

Age 45  and provisional licence holder....maybe the only thing going for me is that I'm female :)

I'm 25 with a provisional licence and 1 years NCB on a 50cc, Quinn gave me insurance for a restricted BMW F650 GS... not sure why they wouldn't quote you...

Carole Nash quoted me ~1450 for tpft on a 01 transalp 650. I'm 26, have a full A and 2 years NCB. Quinn quoted me 922.02(!) for the same cover, even their fully comp cover was cheaper than CN's tpft.

38, Provisional CN were €525, passed test midway through policy, CN wouldn't requote and refund anything, as i'd passed test but being the nice people they were would add pillion passenger to policy, sure allowed to carry pillion anyway once test was passed.
Will wait until policy is due for renewal and hopefully jump ship with 2 yrs no claims

Ugh I'd kill for quotes like those, I'm 23 1yr NCB on a 650 dragstar 3000 with AON, CN and Quinn both suggested I ring back in a few years :D

Cant say I know much about the Kawasaki 450 Ltd but had I known you were looking for a 400 my neighbour just sold his super-four last week, ah well if I see one on line I'll send you a link.

Actually just googled it and I'm not sure you can get the 450LTD on a provisional, it looks like it make about 0.18 KW power per Kg which is over the .16 you are allowed, but I only checked figures from one site so it may not be that powerful also my math sucks :D

    28, '07 VFR 800, just shy of 2k FC.

Quite happy with that actually - given some of the quotes you guys have. Was €1400 FC for a restricted Bandit - so have roughly 3 times the HP and the insurance has risen relatively little.

I start a thread about this a while back - where a few people gave their vital statistics (insurance wise)

    i'm biking about 3 1/2 years no claims i've 00 pan-european €850

    my advice would be --
apply for ur test, get ur prov licence.get an old small cc bike. then after u've passed ur test u can get a bigger bike ins companies treat full licence holders very differently

don't know how much experience u have on the bike but even if your a starter apply for your test straight away. its actually a piss easy test i passed itabout 10 months after learning how to drive and to be honest u could pass it after about 4 months driving

    Howya lads,

I'm 26 just got my provisional A licence. Looking to buy a Honda Bros 400 to
learn the basics and do my test.
Already got a quote from Aon for E563 tpft. Which i'm delighted with.
Now the only problem is i need to source a Bros 400? I've bein into JP's on Pearse st. He's looking E2100 for a 1991.
There is a lad in longford looking E1500 for a 1988 from the buy and sell.
    The bikebuyersguide has nothing.

Has anyone any suggestions on the best place to look? including online websites?

CN lowered the classic barrier from 15 years to 10 years.
at the moment you can get a 1997 and insure as classic.

When I first insured my 1988 650cc I had never had any insurance in IRE and my full A license was only 2 days old. Quote €452 compr. So I took it.
This is almost 2 years ago now..

Full A license and classic is a good start I beleive.

Sounds a bit high. I'm 27 on a provisional with no NCB and a grade 4 aon assessment and got 686 with aon.
