Got up at 6 this morinng, noticed a blanket of jet contrails in the sky. (around 15 in total)

Can someone explain the atmospheric conditions it would take for these trails to hang and spread across the sky?

Upper level winds and advancing front will indicate more moisture present for the contrails to appear to hang and spread.Basically its a first clear indication of unsettled weather approaching.

If the contrail appeared for a short time and disappeared, there is little moisture there so settled weather for at least 24hrs or more.

    good explanation thre snowbie.

Should be an explosion of growth in plants after the rain in the next few days.
Really looking forward to seeing trees bursting into leaf which are creeping right now, grass shooting up etc, should be pretty nice.
