Anyone know what the USB port is for ?

Can it be used for taking video files diectly off the harddrive or do SKy block this ?

Think it's one of these "for future expansion" features like the 2nd card slot.

I know you can't take the files off the drive though. Even putting the whole disk into a pc won't work as it's encrypted.

Personally, I find it useful for charging stuff, like my phone, iPod and other stuff that charges with USB.

As for what it will be officially used for, wasn't there something some time ago about a possible portable media device?

Ooh, a use for the ports!

Some people in the past have suggested they may be used for the likes of portable media devices.

Of course, just like the expansion ports on Skyboxes, they may never be used...

Yes. They had problems with the PMP. Allegedly DRM problems. But they may have just decided it was too expensive for the return on revenue, or would be hacked to let people copy to PC....

    Dunno.

It was originally planned for an 'Archos' type device - only available to purchase from Sky naturally  , but ran into probs as Watty says.

My info is that its been shelved indefinitely - never thought about charging the Ipod from the port though - quick thinking Kahless !

Surely the boxes aren't x86-based?! I'd assume they'd use an ARM processor of some sort, or something similar.

And I highly doubt they'd allow such a thing to work if they were, anyway.
