    Hi Guys,

I am getting a Mac Mini soon for the purpose of being able to do some video editing (very bad experiences with PC software and hardware so far) with the likes of iVideo or Final Cut Pro. The version I am getting is 1.66Mhz Duo with 1GB of RAM, I was wondering if people out there have this or think its sufficient for what I would like to do.

Also has anyone used Mac for video editing either as a hobby or semi-professional way? Im a complete n00b so a helping hand would be appreciated - maybe some pointers toward good tutorials.

    Dave

All the signs (such as they are) point to a new version of the Mini coming out soon, with a much faster processor at least (core 2 duo) and most likely a better graphics card. I think for video editing you certainly need something beefier than the current core duo Mini, though there are others here who have more experience in that area.

Yeah... you might be better stretching to get an iMac at least for video editing.

Agreed, the imac's graphics card would be much better. But if you can only afford a mini then I recommend you wait as Dr_Teeth suggested. Mini updates are overdue.

In My experience i would say it would be fine for the occasional home movie in iMovie. I'v used an original coreduo macbook for this and while it wasn't as slick as my macbook pro...it was fine and still a good deal better than anything you would have experienced using a PC i would think. However i think you would find FC Pro to be a bit much for the mini. It is a pro tool after all. Not sure about FC express though.

It really depends what you're planning on doing...if you're dabbling with iMovie, its fine, but if you want to do something more serious i think its limitations will soon become obvious!

Just my opinion from my (admittidly Limited) experience.
