Well if you want to wait till next January or so go for an iPhone. Thing is, seeing as nobody has had their hands on one yet, i wouldn't jump in and be the first person to have one. Apple are good, but some if not all first releases are a bit dodge. Also the price, i cant help feeling its way to expensive for a phone. All that said, im a fan of Apple, had their computers for years, and iPod's too, i just would not go for the rev a of any of their products.

Well, it depends on what you need it for, the iPhone has a max of 8GB storage as far as we know where as you can get an 80GB iPod.
So think about what you will be putting onto it and decide then.

And yeah, the Rev. A thing is a good point!

I think the thing to watch out about with the iPhone is that when it comes out it will be brand spanking new (more or less) so they probably will not have ironed out (or even discovered) all problems and bugs etc. When i first heard about it i was like "Wow! I want one now!" but thinking about it, i would definitely wait a while, see if there is any major problems, wait for updates to it(firmware or otherwise...)
But that's just me, if you want one, off with ya and let us all know about it if you do..

    I'd also like to know

    (i) when it'll be released over here,
    (ii) if it'll be ready-to-go

    (i) January

(ii)it's 599 dollars on a two year contract, do the math and you can figure out the RTG price for the phone, i doubt it will be pocket friendly.

i want this phone to be a success and it will lead to greater capacity phones with better features, imagine a phone with an 80gig hard drive with 5megapixel camera and being quite small.

i'm intrigued to see how well the touch-screen will work, as if it doesn't work impeciably then it won't sell in europe as most europeans text, if texting isn't as comfortable and as fast as a normal phone people won't bother.

    .

January for UK/Europe but I'm not confident that means Ireland. Apparently Cingular had to make significant network changes to accomodate the iphone so I would expect that it will only be supported by one of O2 / Vodaphone across Europe and it will almost certainly not be available RTG . . not until end of 2008 at least !
