hi all just wondering if ya could help me out here? have an option to buy a stripped Beetle with a second beetle for parts just wondering in everyones opinion good idea?bad idea? for a very reasonable price may i add. Want basically to restore a beetle but with exterior and interior modifications been looking around the net for info before i make any purchases im keen and good with my hands although not a lot of mechanical experience my dad has though! Basically i would like to put something like a porsche body kit or something to that effect on it if i do buy one, but i cant find any suppliers on them anywhere. Also wide arches if possible . If i decide to go ahead and put in the work i want something out of the ordinary. Does anyone know of any good modification parts websites?

    Any help greatly appreciated,
    Thanks
    Viv.

    I don't know where you'd get a Porsche body kit, I haven't seen one in years :)

    www.nboc.org.uk
    www.typ2ireland.org

Better upgrade the engine while you're at it - the weight of some of those kits is unreal - the front bumper assembly (like the one on the black Beetle there) alone is amazingly heavy. I know that they're fibreglass but still - I couldn't believe the weight of them.

If it's that heavy you'll need to upgrade the brakes first ;)

last few pics are the way to go...

No matter what, don't try to put some racing spoilers on this machine. It kills those clean lines. Go wide as you wish, go low as you wish, but keep it clean.
You can even put some VR6 engine in it...

It is very funny to see all the beetles look like a Porsche someone has blown up and to know that most of them have only a standard engine.
First i would do is to convert the front brakes to disk system, then tune the engine.
And forget the body kit. It is ugly. Find out something about the history of your beetle, before you destroy it. I have seen someone putting this **** on an original Jeans bug from '73. This is brain less. If you have a special beetle, why destroying it with plastik parts?
Try to keep the original look. Make it cal look or old school or hot rod. That will have style.

If you need an engine, or other parts, then write me a pm.

    Dusty

P.S.: My '67 baby looks like original, but it has loose 120kg of weigth and the engine is 80 Bhp :D

thanks for all the pics lads, the black one is class tis somethin like that i would like to end up with.Missed out on one myself few months back in kildare still kicking myself. Do ya know how much the one with the kit sold for thats in galway now ? was it a restoration project?

i know a lot of people can be against the modifying of beetles but i think its personal preference really. Anyone can buy a standard one. And ya can get sick of looking at the same old thing. Wide and low is definitely the way to go i agree with ye 100% there even the red one is a bit too OTT for me. I still cant find any suppliers of the kits tho but there must be somebody somewhere to get em off of.

One thing i am afraid of though is that with buying a beetle it will turn into a complete money pit? has this happened to anyone?

    You have 2 choices.
First you do just a bit here and a bit there, repair faults and put some new parts if needed. Then you have a money waster.
Second you strip down a good base and do all in one go. Then you have put in a lot of money in one time, but your beetle will only need some maintance to run for years.

I allways go the second way. It's much cheaper over years.
