My brother is thinking of becoming an accountant, he is 30 years of age and has a non related 3rd level qualification, if he was to go back to college full time what are his options, he wants the route to be a proper accountant not technican?

Loads of options, prob best to ask in the Accontancy forum, also search accountancy in google.ie and you'll get a fair few hits.

One option - depending on what 3rd level education he got is to go and do a 1 year Post-graduate Diploma in accounting in dcu or dit. This is a conversion course for non-accounting grads and gets you up to the same level as a 3year Accountancy degree would (well in so far as both get pretty much same exemptions, and both can go into a M.Acc afterwards) - so it's a good course.

Alternatively he could get straight into an accounting role - and go thru every stage of the professional examinations. There are four options in Ireland (open to correction), ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA - again read up on them.
