interview preparation course

im considering taking part in an interview preparation course with a highly regarded communications company to prepare for a competency based interview.

apparently you send them job specs and competencies required and they will mock interview you and record it and then analyse your mannerisms and non verbal communications etc and advise you on how to improve your technique.

I have had a friend give me a similar mock interview for job and was told I need to improve my confidence. Does anyone have any experience of such courses and if so would they recommend them??

As long as they are not wallet-raping you, I'd go for it.

It's a fact that most will make up their minds about you within the first 5 minutes of the interview and that 80% of communication is non-verbal.

93% of stats are a load of horsesh** ;)

It think it's a great idea - although I'd squirm at video footage of myself in an interview!

I find this sort of stuff very hard to believe. Why not just have the interview five-minute long then rather than just wasting everyone's time? And surely in many jobs verbal communication is critical so why would they get hung up on non-verbal stuff. Surely many people will naturally be nervous in an interview situation anyway, so non-verbal signs taken from an interview situation may be misleading?

But presumably if it's a "fact", there is a source for such information?

Don't discount it. I found it hard to believe myself until I was in a position interviewing people.

Ask any HR bod, and they will admit that it's true.

I done an interview course before with Carr Communications in Ballsbridge. Reasonable price and well presented. However I think it is a much greater benefit just to apply for jobs, even one's you don't want and do interviews. The actual practice is much more beneficial
