    Hi all,

Quick question and apologies if its posted somewhere else.

I am currently living in a house and we got sky in a month ago.

Problem is we may be moving from this place soon and we have a 12 month contract with them.

1)Is it possible to move the disk and box to another address?
2)How much does it cost or is it possible to do a diy on it?

    Any thoughts would be welcome.

Please note that if i end up having to move then simpling having someone else pay the bill in the current place wont be an option. We will all be moving due to a landlord issue.

Yes. It will work nearly anywhere. Some people even move them to France or Spain :)

Sky have a basic re-install charge and you get a new dish & LNB. Or indeed DIY is very possible. If you can arrange to see TV screen from Dish and you are handy with putting things on walls.

The Dish will even work quite close to ground as long as it has a view to Southwest about 20 degrees upward.

Satellite coax with copper foil should be used, not cheap TV coax.

You actually own all the gear.

Bring the old Dish & LNB as a spare even if getting a Sky subsidized move.

    Cheers for that.

I knew the dish would work but i thought sky may have had some funny rule about it having to be at that address.

I may try the DIY option depending on the set up if we move.

Any idea of costs though if i go through sky?

They may be a bit strange if you take it outside of Ireland, and actually tell them. Otherwise it's not a problem.

It used to be €70 or so, but they may inist on phone lines, 1 year minimum etc.. . There is also 3rd party folks if you try DIY and get stuck. Providing dish is properly mounted facing south east and the 3rd party really only has to find the signal, it might be 50 Euro. A full install, running cable, dish fitting etc like Sky would do can be 100 Euro to 300 Euro.

I suspect they could give you a bad credit rating if they can't catch up to you.

Eh no. And who are they going to grass you up to? The ICB only collects info from financial institutions.

They have been known to engage DEBT Collectors.

But realistically how far are they going to take it? For a few months SKY subs, the money it would cost to take you to court would not be worth their while. If in the OP's case he has moved away its unlikely the debt collector would even bother once they see a return of "gone away".

Ok lads thanks for the input but i don't intend to do a runner.

The reason i may end up moving is because the landlord hasnt kept his end of the lease so far and i would rather not leave any loose ends.

Also i would prefer to keep my agreements.
