How many of the lost Dr Who tapes have actually been found and does anybody thing it is at all likely any more will be discovered?

It's such a shame that any were lost:( , what was the BBC thinking?

its was a common practice that the BBC re-used their video archives and also dumped their film ones as well... however all of the audio remains (for instance I bought Invasion over the weekend on DVD, the audio is there and they have created a cartoon to show the missing action) and so you can buy them form the BBC audio collection.

This, however can be a risky business... as your imagination will surpass the reality of the older stories and when you get them on DVD they may be a dissapointment. Douglas Adams stories fall into this category as his imagination far surpassed what the BBC were able to produce visually.

At home i have a comprehensive list of what is still missing and I'll post it tonight (unless Ioxy gets here first :D )

There's a nice Wiki article here about all the missing episodes.

If you're hardcore enough, you can watch these missing episodes as a series of still photos (those taken on the set for continuity of scenes) accompanied by a crackling soundtrack. These are interspersed with subtitles explaining the action that's now missing. If you're lucky, some fans will have attempted home made SFX to fill in some gaps.

That's being a real fan if you can watch those. Proper hardcore.

My ex was more of a Dr Who fan than I was and was into the older doctors more than myself and he did have some of the Audio CDs for the lost episodes and watched some of the ones with audio and still pictures but that isn't my thing, I'm more of a visual person when it comes to shows and still images can't compete for me with actual motion visuals. However I would not say he was exactly a hardcore fan, I've come across some people who are way more so.

I was interested in people's opinions as to whether they think any more of these will be discovered as I am aware over the last decade or so some have been found that were thought to be lost forever. You know, complete with audio and visual motion, the whole story and episodes basically.

Clearly I'm not enough of a Dr Who fan to get what this is all about. WTF?

I'm more a look it up at home job than young Ioxy who can do that aul internet thing at the drop of a hat.

Basicly, its assumed that anything that can be found has been found, and later on this evening when the kids are in bed i'll come back and go through what has and hasnt been found and all that.

Aidan, is that a line from Im going Slightly Mad in your description?

as for the lost tapes, there are over 100 missing eps altogether so listing them will be problematic, i assume the wiki link up there will list them and tell you if they are totally lost or partially lost....

but at the start of the 90's there were many more prersuemed lost but were found in strainge places around the world.... eg in your part of the world lil they recovered some eps sent by the BeeB and returned in black and white not colour... so things do get discovered.... i personally think that unless some private collectors hare hoarding them for an auction that all that can be discovered has been

If you're really up for classic missing Who, the BBC has a series of "photonovels" at their site, made up of still shots from the original video, some soundbytes and the odd video clip. They're a bit fiddly to watch though.

I didn't think it was that important to find out what it was, it would have been better to look it up via definition rather than pictures, I get that's it's chatspeak, I'm not up with all that lingo is all.
