I received a call from a Guard on Tuesday afternoon telling me to show up in court on Thursday morning to give evidence regarding an incident which took place at my workplace April '06. The Guard in question took a statement from me August '06 and I didn't hear from him again until this week.
My evidence is vague to say the least, and to tell the truth, I don't want to be involved, as the skanger in question has dubious connections to some dodgy people, including drug dealers with guns. He's not up on a charge he's likely to receive a custodial sentence for, but I'd rather not give evidence against him. Especially as I worked with his father a few years back. Therefore, his father knows what I look like, where I live and what car I drive. Moreover, he knows my fíance, her car, her place of work, hours at work and has her number. I never fell out with him, but never got on either.
I always thought you had to receive a summons to appear in court, but all I got was a phonecall from the Guard in question. Is this usual, or is it out of the ordinary? I don't know if wriggling out will endear me to the Guard, but if I don't have to be there, I might not turn up.
Anyone know the ins and outs of this? Any advice appreciated.
