not sure if i'd back it after 2 tough races in succession. character building for me

Nine De Sivola or Parsons Legacy, both firm ground horses and have both proven form over this distance, as an e/w shot it would be Le Duc (early casualty in Grand National) firm ground horse, and will stay the distance.

Has anyone any thoughts on Idle Talk? McCain junior keeps insisting it's a good 'un but is it?

Mon Mome and/or Halcon generladais, although a Ruby Walsh ridden Cornish Rebel could twist my arm.

I'll be backing D'agent EW to small stakes in this race..

Finished twice behind baron windrush including the midlands grand national. however those races were on soft ground. In both races baron windrush was carrying less weight than D'argent but in this race D'argent receives 2 pounds to turn around a 12l loss.

i'm a litle concerned about d'argents jumping and the fact that it hasnt won on good ground in a while but will back it regardless.

edited.. non runner now.. never mind

    Character Building:

Was second to Butlers Cabin over 4 miles at Cheltenham and it has a low weight.

I think I'll go for Strong Resolve just for an E/W punt. Ran in the national a couple a years ago and finished so we know he can stay. I'll back Ballycassidy for the sake of it as I backed him the last two years in Aintree when he fell when leading.

THE prospects of Scottish Grand National market principal Character Building lining up at Ayr on Saturday have receded, with the going on Thursday changed to good to firm.

Trainer John Quinn will walk the track on Saturday morning before making a final decision, but the loss of 'good in places' in the going description will not encourage him to saddle Character Building, who finished runner-up to Butler's Cabin in the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham last month, on good to soft.

Kinda fancied this one myself on his Cheltenham run but signs aren't good. Will probably back Parson's Legacy now. Am I mad in thinking A New Story is due one of these?

It would be Character Building to come 2nd to a fast finishing Run For Paddy for me. Run for Paddy won this race off a 1lb lower mark last year, he'll relish the ground tomorrow (his record is 3/1/1 on good or better over 3M2 up). 14/1 on Betfair is a very tempting price.

Character Building is more obvious with his 2nd to Butlers Cabin being so well advertised at Fairyhouse.

Id have to agree with Charachter Building also!

I picked Silver Birch last week on the back of his recent Cheltenham run so Im hoping that logic translates into this weekend too :)

MasterK i think you are mistaken about Run for Paddys weight. Last year he was carrying 10-2, whereas this year he is to carry 10-10

00del, that weight is the actual physical weight he will carry which you are correct in stating is higher than last year. What I was talking about was his official rating which is now 134, he won the race last year off a mark of 135. Therefore is he running this year off a mark 1lb less than last.

oh right sorry masterk. Do you think being 1lb lower in OR will have any effect. I feel that as he only won by a short head last the extra 8lb will prove too much. My picks are Hot Weld (bottom weight, fast ground horse, twice placed over 4miles). Le Duc (fast ground horse, not racing against English National quality in which i backed him, and has run over 3mile 7f) Character Building (2nd to Butlers Cabin, Fast ground horse. Perfect trip.)

I have A New Story backed at 100/1 and 75/1 on the nose at the minute. Gonna back him each way tomorrow. I reckon he's in with a chance ;)

13 horses finished in both of the Scotish and English nationals.

    13 unlucky for some.

In both the Scottish and English National- i managed to narrow the field down. The English down to 8 and the Scottish to 7. English i had on my list 1st, 2nd, 7th and some fallers so was pleased when i got my family to pick my choices and my younger brother picked 1st and 2nd!. Scottish i had 1st,2nd and 3rd. But only backed 3 and had only 1st but still pleased.
