My Aunt asked me just now if i could get her flights to this island, just of the Italian coast. except i can't figure out how the hell to get there!! to get to the island, you need to take a ferry from Piombino, a port on the mainland. Now Pisa isn't that far from it, in theory, and she can get flights to there, no problem, but if anyone know's how to get to Piombino from Pisa, please tell me, i'm wasting an awful lot of time here searching.

    Thanks in advance

    Hey there,

I was on that island last summer, spent 2 weeks driving around Italy.

We went from Chianti down to Elba, we came very close to Pisa alright. Once you get you Pisa the road to Piombino is easy to follow. There is a big road which goes down the west coast of italy and there is a slip road which takes you to Piombino, there are loads of signs for the place so you cant miss it. Im cant remember the exact name of the road but I might be able to find it for you in my Itlay Lonely Planet...

If you're not driving Im sure there would be buses heading down that way...have you a Lonely Planet guide?

Elba is a lovely island by the way

    hi, thanks for replying

No i haven't got a Loney PLanet guide, never heard of it to be honest, i'm not the biggest traveler, just the computer nerd of the family :D

My aunt wouldn't be driving, she's flying in to pisa and hopefully public transport will get her to the island. i tried looking up buses and trains but the sites are all in italian! if you've any advice, it'd be great

No bother, you can get a train from Pisa to Piombino which takes only 2 hours. Have a look at http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html, it came up in English for me here.

Set the Leaving From to Pisa and Going To to Piombino, enter the travel dates and click Send. There are a good few trains every day, one roughly every two hours, you can buy your tickets online but Id recommend buying them in the station when your aunt arrives. You could print out the times for her.

The trains over there are much nicer than the ones over here :)
