    Hi,

Myself and my boyfriend are travelling to Dubai on September 16th for two weeks. It will be right in the middle of Ramadan! I dont know if it'll make a big difference being there during this time! Does anyone know if restaurants etc will be open or even certain areas of them ?

I went to Dubai last year during Ramadan, although it was an enjoyable experience I probably would think twice about doing it again during this festival.

Ramadan starts from the 13th of September this year, so if you are going on the 16th you will be there during it.

    Things to note:

~ Hotel restaurants will be open to non-muslims only and will be partitioned off, out of the view of locals.

~ It is prohibited for anyone (non-muslims included) to eat, drink, smoke or chew gum in public from dusk until dawn. This is hard because it is so hot and you will be dying for a nice cool drink of water!

~ Also be aware that it is advised to dress conservatively during the month of Ramadan as a sign of respect. This is especially hard for women as it is seen as disrespectful not to wear long sleeves and to wear skirts to the ankle during Ramadan so as not to potentially yet inadvertently cause offence.

~ Most shops etc. will have later opening hours, so for example, if a shop usually opens at 9am, it will probably be opening at 12pm instead.

If it is your first time to Dubai then it won't be too bad, but if you were there before outside of Ramadan then you will probably be pissed off with all of the 'new' rules.

Not the best time to go at all as you're drinking is limited and you can actually get arrested for eating or smoking in public during this time  i suppose one plus is that you will get flights and especially hotel;s for knock down price.

PS-Be sure to check out my mates Bar The Dubliners @ Le Meridien Hotel, Airport Road Dubai's best Irish Bar.
