Hey Guys, im applying for a visa to work in the US as ive been promoted and the new job requires i work out of NY. The application for the visa is dealt with in another department in the building.

problem is about 4 yrs ago i was convicted of a drunk an disorderly and obviously have a criminal record. I was fillin in the form today an see a section dedicated to your crim record, ie "have you ever been arrested for and convicted of anything except minor traffic offenses"

my question is; do i state that i have? or just click no and hope they dont check? im not very familiar with the whole visa process and am a bit embarressed about asking anyone.... am a bit worried this will mess up the new job

any of you know? or have had a similar experience?

You really need to contact the US embassy as soon as. From my understanding, you would have to declare this, but it may not be a blocker. However, not declaring it and being found out at a later stage = trouble.

You probably should speak to someone at your HR about this asap as well.

You should contact the embassy and they may arrange an interview.
I would not advise lying about it.

Having a criminal record means you can't avail of the visa waiver scheme but it doesn't in itself stop you from entering. You can enter under a visa.

Gerry Adams and his ilk (of all shades) have been to the States and their carry on was/is far worse than drunk and disorderly.

Get it sorted out with whoever is working on your visa as it could be a stumbling block. The people at the US Embassy in Ballsbridge will be able to tell you how to sort it out. I think there are certain categories that decide whether the crime is bad enough to refuse the visa. Call them, don't lie as it will come back to you.
