    Hi all,

I applied to the MSSF ( M.Sc in Security and Forensic Computing) and M.Sc in Software Engineering last night, and I'm a bit unclear about submitting supplementary documentation. It says on the PAC(Postgraduate Applications Centre) website that if you are currently a DCU student you don't need to submit transcripts for obvious reasons, but do they need birth certs or anything else?
I emailed the PAC and got a stern reply this morning saying that all the info is on the website. I've had a good look and haven't found anything in particular.

    Also,

Does anyone know how competitive entry actually is to these courses, in terms of places vs. applicants. I'm not a grade A student but not a complete waster either so I'm somewhat hopeful

If you are a current DCU student or are a graduate of DCU then no extra documentation like that is required. But it is always a good idea to include an up to date CV, especially if you have industrial experience, or other relevant information to the course. But its not mandatory.
If you are uncertain, you could always ask Renaat Verbruggen (MSSF Chair) or Michael Ryan / Claus Pahl (MSE Chair).

Thanks H2G2. I might email Renaat and see.. I'd love to get into the MSSF, it sounds really interesting, but I somehow can't see it happening :-(!

When i was applying for it back in 2004 you needed a h1 if not that grade then a h21 with lots of extras.
Im not sure what the case is now.
The e-commerce tech stream has about 40% of the same content. if you are into that type of thing

I'm currently doing MSE, masters in Software Engineering, I applied two weeks before the deadline. There is 16 of us in the course and roughly the same amount of people in MSSF. I think the limit for the number of people in each course is about 30-ish.

Don't do Software Engineering..it's so boring!

jank, from what I remeber there were a fair few people that got into the 04-05 MSSF intake with just a good 2:1 grade and no real extras.

But I couldn't tell you about the 05 and 06 intakes, OP, but I imagine its got more competitive :/

It is true for 3 subjects of it in my experience. I really learned a lot from it. You will love it if you like coding and J2ee stuffs. There is only one subject must use C.
